The Physician Fee Schedule is out of sync with modern surgery. Analysis of 105k cases shows that in a minimally invasive era, open operation is no longer interchangeable with MIS. Instead, open operations have become a distinct high complexity subgroup. -Conversions take up to 147% longer than MIS. -Open and converted cases have significantly higher LOS/complication. Current CPT coding and work RVUs don't account for the increased clinical complexity, necessitating a formal reconsideration of open procedure valuation. No I enjoyed it, it was fine...pretty much what you would expect...went to the cape a few times when I was younger and it's actually one of my fondest memories for whatever reason. Granted, I was a lot younger and I don't have any other potato chip factory tours to directly compare it to, but if you look at what Ocean Spray was doing with their tours in the cranberry space during that same period, you start to realize they could have gone harder at the chip factory.

New data suggests parathyroidectomy significantly outperforms cinacalcet in reducing cardiovascular risk for patients w/ dialysis-independent tertiary hyperparathyroidism. Propensity-matched analysis of 1,760 patients found surgery was associated with a 36% reduction in major adverse cardiac events and 67% reduction in atrial fib over 5-year period. Findings support surgical intervention as a definitive strategy to mitigate long-term cardiovascular morbidity in post-transplant populations.
