Straight from the swearing in ceremony, I dashed to luwero to flag-off the inaugural export of 104 metric tonnes of canned ( processed ) pineapples to China by DESHIBURG company, one of the investors in the Uganda-China Agriculture Cooperation industrial park. Deshiburg company is the first investor to set up a dedicated canned pineapple factory in uganda with capacity to process 500 tonne per day. This increases the demand for pineapples as a raw material and ends the perennial challenge of lack of market for our perishable Agriculture produce. It places a challenge to our farmers to produce more for this demand. I have made a clarion call to the local political leaders & Agriculture extension personnel, to mobilise & guide our farmers to start intentional farming:- farming that targets to meet existing demand of a particular agro-raw material sustainably. This huge proliferation of agro-industries speaks to farmers only one message; produce, produce and produce more! The excuses of no markets for Agricultural produce is no more with this revolution of agro-industrialisation ! Produce for own food , produce for the market ( domestic, regional and international ) and please do so following the acceptable standards, was my message to the farmers!

We are raising global children… but are we grounding them? Family is where culture is passed, where discipline is learned, and where identity is formed. Without it, education alone is not enough. Bring children closer. Let them see your work. Let them understand your journey. That is how values are built.

To pursue commitments made in November 2024 to open a direct export channel for beef, fish, grains, dairy, and fruits from Uganda to the DRC, @paceidug made a case for consistency in the application of tax rates on goods from Uganda and on intra-DRC/Uganda investments. We thank H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni and his guest, H.E. Tshishekedi, for their attention to the matter of trade, investment, and security today. PACEID and its partners had 1 tonne per week of fish, beef, dairy, and other products entering Kinshasa, but couldn’t sustain these orders due to delays at border points and abrupt changes in taxes. President Tishekedi today agreed to a visit by a trade and petroleum delegation at the end of May to clear all the key outstanding trade issues. Immigration and investment issues were signed off on in today’s joint communique 📸PPU

We concluded the four-day First Impression Ambassadors Training for airport officials on Tuesday afternoon, with 853 participants from Customs, Immigration, and Aviation Security, commiting to delivering a positive, safe, friendly, and professional experience for every traveler. This initiative is grounded in a simple truth: Uganda’s image begins at first contact. “The impression you make will make or break Uganda. Every interaction is an opportunity to build trust and confidence in our country.” ~@matthewbagonza. Brig. Gen. Kisami Mike, @UgandaCAA Manager Aviation Security, emphasized implementation: “We must translate these lessons into better service, stronger teamwork, and clearer communication.” This is not just training, it is a step toward strengthening Uganda’s global image and competitiveness in tourism and trade.

Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu. Habaari. Greetings to all of you. Of recent, I have noticed a lot of orwaari (noise, kelele), regarding the Sovereignty Bill. Which Sovereignty Bill is the rwaari about? The one I initiated in the Cabinet or another one? The Bill will stop FDIs (Foreign Direct Investments), support for religious bodies from abroad, Remittances from Ugandans working abroad, etc., etc. Really!! That is not the Bill I initiated. Below is clarification on what I initiated.

Uganda’s competitiveness as a tourism and investment destination is shaped long before a visitor reaches a hotel or business meeting, it begins at the point of entry. The experience at the airport (border points) defines first impressions, influences perception, and ultimately determines whether visitors feel welcomed, confident, and eager to engage with our country. In partnership @UgandaCAA, today we commenced the second phase of a four-day Hospitality Impression Training in Entebbe, convening over 190 frontline officers from Customs, Immigration, and Aviation Security. These teams collectively serve as Uganda’s first ambassadors at the airport. Speaking at the opening, PACEID's @matthewbagonza, emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism and positivity: “As the first point of contact with visitors, you play a critical role in shaping Uganda’s image. Your engagement must reflect discipline, warmth, and efficiency.”

Across Uganda, we continue to engage farmers, local leaders, and the business community to strengthen export readiness at the grassroots level. In Ngomba Buremba, Kazo District, Chairman @OdrekRwabwogo commended the youth for actively fighting poverty through cattle farming and a strong saving culture, encouraging them to scale up and lead by example. “Everything is possible, it starts with mindset. We can create jobs locally without necessarily going abroad.” He outlined PACEID’s four-pillar model; market entry through research to eliminate blind trade, strengthening standards and compliance through initiatives such as the proposed Food and Agricultural Regulatory Authority, development of export infrastructure, and access to export financing. We also recognize the important role of the media in amplifying these efforts as Uganda accelerates its export-led transformation.

Ngomba, one of the most densely populated parishes in Ankore, largely by arrivals from other parts of the country from 1968, in Kazo district, is an expression of hard work, committed elders working with productive youth. The young people who began with weekly contributions of UGX1000 to UGX5000 have now built an organisation that gives each family a cow, grows coffee and drive out poverty from their homesteads. We spent Thursday with them to figure out if their coffee volumes would warrant a huller installed for them. I thank the leadership of both Kazo and Ibanda districts for working together to deal with youth poverty, showing the way to aggregate products for exports and donating workspaces for this effort.
