On Saturday last week , a concerned citizen informed me that my name appears on a list of six doctors allegedly “recruited by @NUP_Ug” to secretly investigate the recent tragedy that claimed the life of our beloved Honourable at a medical facility. What I find deeply troubling is not just the falsehood itself, but the deliberate choice to single out six specific doctors out of the thousands practising in this country. Who exactly benefits from circulating such propaganda, and to what end? The Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council (@UMDPC) has already constituted an independent committee of professionals to conduct a thorough, impartial investigation. So my logical questions are: 1.Why are security operatives inserting themselves into a purely professional and medical matter that is already being handled by the rightful regulatory body? 2.On what evidence, if any, have they concluded that these six named doctors are involved in any “secret investigation”? 3.Why target doctors who have no knowledge of, and no role in, the UMDPC committee’s work? 4.Is the intention to intimidate the very professionals appointed by @UMDPC, thereby undermining public confidence in the official investigation? 5.If this is not intimidation, then what is the genuine national security interest that justifies naming private citizens and circulating their names in this manner? Coming from an already exhausting week, it is both alarming and draining to learn that baseless security dossiers now include my name simply because I am a doctor. This is no longer just about one tragic incident. When security agencies begin manufacturing links between medical professionals and political parties without evidence, every Ugandan especially every doctor should be paying close attention. Transparency is not a favour; it is a necessity. The public deserves to know why security operatives are so invested in controlling the narrative around a medical tragedy instead of allowing the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council to do its job. I trust that the right authorities will address these legitimate concerns before this escalates further. The eyes of the medical fraternity and the nation are now watching.
