There are moments when I 'must' deliver devastating news to my patients: 'This blindness is permanent. You will not be able to see. You'll have to use this medicine for life. We have no option but to remove this eye' e.t.c In such moments, I quietly wish that my patients will not just accept the outcome. I'm that kind of person btw. I fight to the end😊. Deep down I want them to challenge the finality of my words. I low key hope they'll respond, 'No, doctor, I have faith in God. I believe that he's not done with this situation yet. I believe that he can turn things around.' This kind of hope-- the hope against hope, is powerful and works wonders. It is what Paul meant in Romans 4:18 when he said, 'Abraham Hoped against Hope' Have you tried hoping against hope?

The impact we have had on eye care in Karamoja is very tangible. How do we know? 1. Patients walk into the eye unit and ask for surgery themselves. 2. Very few patients resist eye surgery when offered. 5 years ago, refusals were the norm. 3. 80% of our patients come back for follow up after surgery. Slowly but surely, the community is getting empowered to take action on their eye health. My dream is coming true…..😍
