A NYTimes Exclusive: Days after Israeli strikes killed Iran’s supreme leader, President Trump mused publicly that it would be best if “someone from within” Iran took over the country. It turns out that the United States and Israel went into the conflict with a particular and very surprising someone in mind: Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former Iranian president known for his hard-line, anti-Israel and anti-American views. To say that Mr. Ahmadinejad was an unusual choice would be a vast understatement. But U.S. officials spoke during the early days of the war about plans developed with Israel to identify a pragmatist who could take over the country. Officials insisted that there was intelligence that some within the Iranian regime would be willing to work with the United States, even if those people couldn’t be described as “moderates.” But the audacious plan, developed by the Israelis and which Ahmadinejad had been consulted about, quickly went awry, according to the U.S. officials who were briefed on it. There are many unanswered questions about how Israel and the United States planned to put Mr. Ahmadinejad in power, and the circumstances surrounding the airstrike that injured him. American officials said that the strike — carried out by the Israeli Air Force — was meant to kill the guards watching over Mr. Ahmadinejad as part of a plan to release him from house arrest. @ChikomoPrazen @Chofamba Defending your guy is fine. Trampling on democratic freedoms in the name of “mandates” is not. And calling suppressed opposition activity a “trend” is intellectually lazy at best, dishonest at worst.

1) I STILL CAN’T FIND WHERE TIMBA IS BEING BASHED. What I see instead is a group of people, @Chofamba included, displaying FRAGILE EGOS that are too easily bruised by serious political questions. If we are truly committed to the POLITICS OF ZIMBABWE and not shallow trends, hashtags, and emotional reactions, then we must confront the real crisis before us: a NATIONAL MANDATE PANDEMIC. 2)Zimbabwe is suffering from a DEEP MANDATE CRISIS. We now have individuals launching governments, parties, alliances, forums, and movements WITHOUT a clear mandate from the PEOPLE. Every day, people emerge as “FOUNDERS,” “CEOs,” “CONVENORS,” already carrying pre-cooked constitutions, pre-selected leaderships, and ready-made political programs, all before the citizens themselves have spoken. And then we wonder why the people are disengaged. 3)That is precisely why the CAB3 discourse remains URBANISED — trapped amongst elites of thought, social media intellectuals, and suburban political circles, while the ordinary citizen in the peripheries remains disconnected from the struggle. The people do not reject politics because they are ignorant. They reject politics because too many projects are built WITHOUT THEM. 4)I am actually GLAD NC raised the question of MANDATE. It is perhaps the MOST IMPORTANT political question of our time. Timba here is not being attacked; he was simply used as an example, likely because his name appeared in the question itself. Which is exactly why some of us are demanding the FULL INTERVIEW GUIDE and COMPLETE CONTEXT before rushing to conclusions. 5) The irony is astonishing: some of you silence others from defending a position before hearing the full interview, yet you yourselves have already reached FINAL CONCLUSIONS without the full audio. That is not political maturity. That is intellectual dishonesty. 6)And let me make this VERY CLEAR: being against CAB3 is NOT a mandate. Opposition alone is not legitimacy. Anger is not organisation. Frustration is not authority. If you want to organise citizens into a coherent national struggle, then you MUST seek a PEOPLE’S MANDATE. Anything short of that becomes another elite project speaking above the people instead of with them. 7.So spare us the TREND-CENTRIC POLITICS with no political theory, no philosophical grounding, and no understanding of democratic legitimacy. Zimbabwe deserves deeper politics than emotional outrage and online mob reactions.
Chofamba@Chofamba

Ko Timba ava kutukwa atadzei? Is opposing CAB3, which is opposed by the majority of opposition voters in Zimbabwe, a crime?

With AI now taking the lead, an audio recording alone is no longer enough, especially when the alleged speaker has denied both the recording and any contact with the newspaper. Chamisa has already denied the audio and any communication with the publication. What is also notable is that the audio appears to address a different issue from what the newspaper claimed. The newspaper alleged that Chamisa said he did not want unity,  yet the audio seems to focus on certain individuals and remains silent on the issue of unity itself. Chamisa dismissed the story as  “a HOPELESS engineered pact, which appears to allege that I have dismissed the efforts of others to advance the struggle for a better Zimbabwe in a manner they consider appropriate."

In moments where silence becomes convenient and conformity is rewarded, defending constitutionalism becomes both a moral and political duty. We do so because constitutionalism is the foundation upon which any democratic society survives. Once the Constitution ceases to be the supreme law of the land and becomes a tool manipulated for the convenience of those in power, democracy itself is placed in grave danger. The Constitution of Zimbabwe was born out of the aspirations and sacrifices of the people, not the ambitions of a tiny political elite seeking to extend its hold on power. No government has the moral authority to mutilate the national charter for narrow partisan interests while citizens are trapped in deepening suffering. It is both painful and tragic that in a country where millions are struggling to survive, the regime’s priority is not jobs, hospitals, schools, or economic recovery, but constitutional manipulation. Ordinary Zimbabweans are enduring crushing poverty, unemployment, collapsing public healthcare, and a devastating cost of living crisis that has pushed many families into despair. Half the population faces food insecurity, young people are without opportunities, hospitals lack basic medicines, and public services continue to deteriorate before our eyes. At a time when citizens are demanding dignity, accountability, and solutions to the economic crisis, the regime has chosen political self-preservation over national renewal. This is not leadership; it is abandonment of the people. It is for this reason that we have, against the tide and despite intimidation, firmly rejected the proposed constitutional amendment. It does not matter how much power the regime wields or how many voices it seeks to silence. They may persecute citizens, weaponise institutions, and attempt to suppress dissent, but history has no blank pages. It will record that there were those who stood firmly on the side of constitutionalism, democracy, and the will of the people. #NoTo2030

You know what it takes to build a brand so big that you don’t need publicity stunts or drama for PR. Like you could play videos games for a year straight and still get shows like a breaking new artist. Still do streams like I’m going viral for a dance challenge. 12 years deep!!!

Chamisa is a grown man and must defend himself. However, we are obliged, by honour, to defend the space in which he operates because this is also the space in which we all exist. It is unacceptable for anyone, let alone a publication, to manufacture a story in order to besmirch a person’s name, subject him to scrutiny, and call his reputation into question. It is equally unacceptable for a publication to threaten to release evidence merely to keep its story relevant. If you have the evidence just release it. In any case, Nelson says he has said nothing negative about fellow democratic actors. That is the position that will detain us. Every sane person knows that CAB3 is to be resisted.
