@DefenderOfBasic This is very normal, just be careful to make it really obvious on the invitations which bits people are invited to. Easy to have confusion + awkwardness

is it weird / rude to have a "tiered wedding invite" thing (like invite 300 people to come to a more open day 0 & day 1 event, and only 120 can fit into the ceremony event)

There is a certain common tendency, among noob painters, to want to slap down straight tube black for dark-darks, and to get your shades and shadows just by mixing tube blacks with your local colors

There is no reality in which this country can do amazing things like this and not be able to build incredible infrastructure like high speed rail and nuclear power.

I feel like I need to keep evangelizing this because I figured it out too late. If you have a tree in your yard that is strong enough for climbing, but no good for a treehouse, you can probably tie a rope hammock treehouse in it, and your kids will love it.

This is an interesting topic. Technology often brilliant for the elderly but marketed at the young. Ocado, Waymo, bone-conducting headphones (superb for the hearing impaired, promoted to young joggers), Kindle (large text), folding smartphones (ditto). A large part of YouTube use is nostalgic. And so on.

@kendrictonn "The thread in a single shirt took hundreds of labor hours." one of the least believed fun facts I trot out, in part because people cannot imagine sitting down to spin thread.

Something that shifted how I think about distraction: the urge to open a new tab, check the phone, get up for the third time - it's not random. It arrives at a specific moment. Usually right when something gets slightly harder, or slightly more vulnerable, or requires a kind of presence I'm not quite ready to bring. The distraction is the tell. It marks the exact spot where something worth paying attention to is trying to happen.

Having a baby has been the most intensely beautiful experience of my life. I'm surprised that there isn't more art made about this. Sadly, I think it's probably a bad subject for art because everything there is to say about it sounds cliché and maudlin.

High above the town, on a south-facing hill-slope, engineers installed automatically orienting mirrors, which shine direct sunlight onto the town square for as long as the sun is out. 2/n

it always surprises me how just 15 mins of prayer or meditation can completely turn your heart around, in such a deep way like the sun coming out from behind the clouds

It just occurred to me that handicapped spots could apply to families with multiple small children too. I have 3 kids under 5. One of them literally can't walk (because baby). An adult who can't walk gets a special parking spot. Why shouldn't we?
RosiePieMD@Rosiepumpkinspi

@fortelabs Instead, we have to park far away from the front door, because there are 35 handicapped spots for decrepit Boomers, and carry our children across ice through parking lot traffic.
