Earlier this month, Secretary @CordByrd was honored to speak at the Tallahassee @WreathsAcross America event near the WWII Memorial at the R.A. Gray Building. “Coach” David Wilson, volunteer with the program, and @FLVetsAffairs facilitated the event and worked with @LeonSchools to have student ROTC and Jr. ROTC groups present colors and provide an incredible student choir. Local veteran groups were also in attendance to commemorate the event, and @MuseumFLHistory set up a pop-up exhibit of military artifacts.

This weekend, Florida’s Capitol City will be hosting a Bicentennial Spectacular with speakers, performers, and opportunities to view the First Florida Capitol replica of the log cabin constructed to house Florida’s early government, which Secretary Cord Byrd helped to build. We’ve released a special episode of the Unsealed Podcast which shares how the Florida Department of State has supported this initiative and even helped to build a miniature version of the cabin which will be on display this weekend inside of the replica! Hear the special "Tallahassee Bicentennial" episode wherever you listen to podcasts, or here: dos.fl.gov/unsealed/talla…. (@CityofTLH, @LeonCounty, @VisitTally, @MuseumFLHistory, @FLMemory)

Congratulations to the @LBJLibrary in Austin, Texas, which just opened a new exhibit about Florida’s Highwaymen painters! The exhibit, titled “Kings of the Road: The Florida Highwaymen,” features eleven paintings on loan from the @MuseumFLHistory . The artists represented in the loan and exhibition include (in alphabetical order): Hezekiah Baker, Al Black, Ellis Buckner, Mary Ann Carroll, Rodney Demps, Alfred Hair, Isaac Knight, Harold Newton, Lemuel Newton, Samuel Newton, and Charles “Chico” Wheeler. All eleven paintings are part of the Museum’s Risner Fine Art Collection. We are thrilled to see to the story of Florida’s Highwaymen continue to grow and are pleased to loan these paintings toward that aim. See “Kings of the Road: The Florida Highwaymen” on exhibit through April 6, 2025. Photos courtesy of the LBJ Library and Museum, Austin, Texas. #FloridaHistory #FloridaHighwaymen

Archaeologists work to extract a canoe at Lake Munson outside Tallahassee, Florida. The canoe was hollowed out using fire and stone tools some 500 to 800 years ago during the Fort Walton cultural period in Florida history. Look for the Lake Munson Canoe at the @MuseumFLHistory.

@MarchofMuseums This 30-inch glass circle was painted in 1857. Along with seals for 30 other states, it formed part of a skylight in the US House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. until 1951. This design was the state's first seal, in use from 1846-68) #MarchOfMuseums

It’s Florida statehood day! On this day in 1845 Florida became the 27th state in the union. Share a particularly “Florida-y” item from your collection. #MarchOfMuseums

@MarchofMuseums While he may be young at heart, our unofficial mascot, Herman, is actually pretty long in the tooth. While he may be over 10,000 years old, we think he looks great for his age and could easily pass for 8500. #MarchofMuseums
