@CarolinaJournal A solid proposal to cut wasteful spending and use it to fund a real need that enables North Carolinians to rejoin the workforce secure that they have quality childcare. Every legislator should be able to support this.

A group of four Democratic House members filed legislation that would cut nearly $400 million from NC’s Opportunity Scholarship Program over two years and redirect the money to child care subsidies and related priorities. #ncga #ncpol carolinajournal.com/democrat-bill-…

The myth of "bloated school administration" is one of the most popular, and most easily-debunked, criticisms of North Carolina's public school system. Facts: North Carolina spends less on central office staff and school building administration as a percent of its budget today than it has in 20 years. There are also fewer school support staff, and more student-facing support staff (bus drivers, at-risk student services, tutors, and CTE instructors) today than ever before. Education in North Carolina is not, in any way, "too expensive." We actually do a pretty good job.

@ForwardCarolina Fire the administrators. Give every child a voucher and a choice. Teacher pay will rise organically.

@SenRandPaul If we’re scrapping birthright citizenship then no one should be born a citizen. Let everyone who truly wants to be an American learn about our history and political system and pass the citizenship test. We’d be much better off with an informed citizenry than with today’s lemmings

I am introducing a Constitutional Amendment to end Birthright Citizenship. Under current interpretations of American law, anyone born on American soil automatically becomes a U.S. citizen, regardless of whether the parent was here legally or not.  This is wrong and not at all the intent of those who wrote the 14th Amendment.  We are a country filled with immigrants, and legal immigration is valuable and should be protected. But we are also a country whose borders have been too open and our generosity exploited too often. President Trump has moved to seal our border from illegal immigrants more than any other president.   But we will have more to do. We need to make sure that only children born to legal residents of the U.S. are automatically citizens. I have supported protecting birthright citizenship from abuse since the beginning of my tenure in the Senate, when I cosponsored the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2011, and now I am proposing an amendment to protect United States citizenship in case the Supreme Court fails to address this issue correctly.

@andyinrok What this really demonstrates is how woefully uninformed most voters are - take the party affiliation off the ballot and they don’t know who to vote for. Voting is a responsibility and voters should be informed. They should take the affiliation off all ballot races.

@ncspeakerhall Any chance you guys could stop trying to boost the failing senate campaign of Michael Whatley and do your own jobs, like maybe passing a state budget?

The release of violent, repeat offenders back onto our streets is a serious miscarriage of justice. If Roy Cooper or any other official failed to keep the public safe, the people of this state deserve to know about it. We’ve formed a committee to investigate how these early release decisions were made, who was responsible, and whether proper safeguards were followed.

Yes, according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy's April 2026 analysis of 2025 corporate 10-K filings, Walt Disney reported $8.3 billion in U.S. pretax income and $0 in federal income tax. ITEP defines this as zero tax provision on domestic profits per the income tax notes (after legal credits, deductions, and timing differences). Disney is one of 88 companies they identified with $105B combined U.S. pretax profits and zero federal tax. Cash payments can differ due to deferrals.

@JamesHu27192912 This is exactly the reason that we need a civics test as part of voter registration. @JamesHu27192912 has no idea how the NC budget works or who runs the state, but his vote counts just like everyone else’s. On this path, we’re doomed. 😞

North Carolina is now being warned by Governor Josh Stein about a $2.8 BILLION budget shortfall over the next two years. That’s not a small gap. That’s a structural problem. And here’s the part people keep skipping over: North Carolina has had a long run of Democratic governors — including Roy Cooper, who is now running for U.S. Senate after serving two terms, and now Josh Stein. So this didn’t happen overnight. This is the result of years of decisions. Budgets passed. Priorities set. Promises made. Now the bill is coming due. Here’s what that means: • A shortfall like this forces hard choices — fast • Spending gets cut, taxes go up, or both • And everyday North Carolinians feel it first Every program expansion. Every new commitment. Every dollar spent. It all has to be paid for. Now we’re looking at a $2.8 billion gap and one simple question: Who’s going to pay for it? And what gets cut when the money isn’t there? This isn’t abstract. This is your taxes. Your services. Your state. North Carolina doesn’t have the luxury of ignoring a hole this big. So what’s the plan? #ncpolitics #NorthCarolina #NCBudget #ncpol
