The center of Bakhmut today, three years after the end of the bloody battle for these ruins, the Verdun of our era. After years of this and countless similar atrocities, I genuinely do not understand how anyone can still cling to childish illusions that “Putin can be negotiated with” or that “Russia wants peace.” Again and again, again and again.
