Another note regarding Brooklyn’s selection of Egor Dëmin: The only player selected after him that even garners consideration to take him above Dëmin in a re-draft is Cedric Coward. Coward is also going to be 23-years old before the start of next season and was nowhere near as good of a basketball player as Dëmin when he was Dëmin’s age. Just to highlight that development takes time and we shouldn’t jump to conclusions on anyone after just one season, Khaman Maluach — despite his quiet rookie year — is the only other player I’d consider over Dëmin. The Nets’ slip in the lottery was disappointing but the selection of Dëmin has been an early success.

When I watch movies like Sinners, Madea, Harlem Nights, or any movie with a majority black cast, I don’t view it as an all black movie. I just watch it. And I get it, as a white person I can’t see it through his lense. But at the same time, until people start to let go of the past and move forward, we will always be stuck in a past with minds full of resentment and anger.
