If you are an ordinary person earning an ordinary salary in Copenhagen, and you manage to save 30% of your income every year but don’t own your apartment, then...
in effect you become poorer and poorer over time.
The reason is that housing prices are rising faster than you save up money. And this has been true for decades.
If you do own an apartment, then you are one of the fortunate ones. But if you want to keep living in Copenhagen, rising prices do not really improve your life. The only advantage it brings you in that case is that you can be happy that you are not among the ones getting left behind.
It is a soul-destroying dynamic when people cannot move forward despite hard work and diligent saving.
Given the amount of housing we build, a study has shown that 88% of the increase in housing costs is due to mass immigration.
Few things have had such a large negative impact on the lives of so many people.

@jonatanpallesen I don't agree with this at all. SP500 and NASDAQ 100 index has outperformed the Copenhagen housing market since 2020, and since 2010. If you are an ordinary person, you can put income into these two and outperform the housing market with ease. You should know this

Yeah this is great if you have a 'western' salary. But the median take-home salary in Chongqing is about £800 a month, so that £45 is a material expense...a lot of things in China are basically like this. A (laudably functional) low cost / low salary economy.

Went to a hospital in Chongqing today to get some tests the NHS is dragging their heels on. - Arrived at 8:05am - Booked a consultation with the GP - Checked in via QR code - Went in for a consultation with the GP at 8:15am - Booked me in for the tests at 8:45am - Tests completed and left the hospital at 9am All for £45. Meanwhile the NHS eats up nearly half my taxes, and has provided no treatment for an issue tested for and diagnosed in spring 2024. The Chinese GP thinks it may even be possible to buy medicine from China and get it shipped to the UK.
