And there is also huge latent demand for that support. Cycling Club Hackney's Young Hackney Primary School Cycle League is interesting for how it has helped build community capacity for cycling in children and adults (but no formal research on it).

But almost complete absence of support to do anything with that skill once acquired. I think there's lots more to be done to build communities of support for cycling for children and adults.

Hi Tim, you know my research on children's independent mobility but I also do cycle instruction and coaching with children. I'm struck by the significant resource that goes into giving children the technical ability to cycle - Bikeability
Tim Gill@timrgill

The case for cycling would be strengthened if it focused on benefits for children, and made children’s views more central. Would shift debate beyond the short-term, and lift it above sectional spats. Have any local or national groups or projects done this? #childfriendlycities

Anyone know any Portuguese epidemiologists or child psychologists/mental or physical health experts who might be supportive of children's play? Asking for some friends. @apsmunro @sunilbhop @DrHelenDodd

Casualty rates don't necessarily reflect road safety. This was a key motivation for PSI's work on children's independent mobility. In 1971, 86% of primary school children came home from school alone. In 2010 only 25% did.

.@grantshapps says we have amongst the safest roads in world, we have a fabulous, perhaps not fabulous if anyone is being killed but notable safety record by comparison to any other country in the world, but there is more than we can do.

Interesting blog on joint problem framing - one of the challenges of tacking complex problems and relevant to our work at @cecanexus esp. Participatory Systems Mapping - A heuristic framework for reflecting on joint problem framing i2insights.org/2020/06/23/fra…

@andybudd Events driven/unthinkingly following the herd? I've always like the Cynefin approach which is about getting an appropriate decision making framework for the the context hbr.org/2007/11/a-lead… Different contexts require different approaches

RT @trishgreenhalgh: This is the best article I've read on #COVID19. "Countries that are prepared will see a fatality rate of 0.5-0.9%. Countries that are overwhelmed will have a fatality rate of 3-5%". Let's act to flatten the curve. @tomaspueyo/coronavirus-act-today-or-people-will-die-f4d3d9cd99ca" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@tomaspueyo/co…

Two discussions at the same time on Liveable Neighbourhoods. They’re happening in the same room in Haringey. 6 months ago this did not feel possible. Appetite for change is strong in H’gey. Always worth reminding your ward Councillors how important this all is to your community.

Heatwave across much of Europe. If anyone is cycling in France this summer then eau-cyclisme.com is a great resource, has lists and maps of water sources, eg fountains, taps etc

So at least in 20 years time we’ll have a generation able to understand why Low Traffic Neighbourhoods are a good thing... Join us on Sunday, 30th June 1pm, Downhills Park, to hand over our 5 asks to Haringey’s Councillors. Bring your children, they know better than we do...
