I had a strategic meeting with the President of National Association of Agriculture Students (NAAS) to discuss our plan for 2026 and how we can convert the association of over 500,000 Agric students into a movement that will impact the Nigeria Agricultural and Food sector. Please Agric Stakeholders, we need all the support for our young Nigeria Agropreneurs from Funding, to Capacity Building, Training and Resources. While thanking the HM Agriculture and Food Security for the constant support we appeal that our Honorable Agric Commissioners across the country to support Agric students in their states under the umbrella of NAAS and we believe we will make Nigeria Food secured. I was pleased to receive beneficiaries of the Enterprise for Youth in Agriculture (EYiA) programme implemented by Soilless Farm Lab, as the Federal Government continues to reaffirm its strong commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive agricultural development. The EYiA programme, funded by the Mastercard Foundation in collaboration with Soilless Farm Lab, is a 12-week intensive training that equips young Nigerians with practical, market-ready skills in soilless farming, greenhouse production techniques, and greenhouse fabrication. These competencies are critical to building a modern, resilient, and climate-smart agricultural sector. The End-of-Year Graduation Ceremony, held on 12th December 2025 in Awowo, Ogun State, brought together graduates drawn from across the country, reflecting the national reach and impact of the programme. In a related engagement, I later received some of the Borno State graduates in Maiduguri, where they formally presented their certificates. I assured them that the empowerment and support of the Federal Government extend to all Soilless Farm Lab graduates nationwide. This aligns squarely with our national food security and youth inclusion agenda under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. We remain committed to creating opportunities for young people to thrive, drive innovation in agriculture, and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s food systems and economic growth.

Today at the University of Abuja, I challenged our universities and colleges of agriculture to deepen research and develop new technologies that can transform Nigeria’s food production landscape. At the First International Annual Conference of the National Association of Agriculture Students (NAAS), I commended their initiative of cultivating five hectares of farmland for hands-on training and food production, a model that strengthens both learning and national food security. I also visited the University’s Agricultural Learning Center, an impressive hub for innovation, modern crop productivity techniques, and advanced pest and disease control. I urged the institution to expand this centre to train even more young agricultural innovators. In my remarks to the students, I emphasized the power of technology and AI in shaping the future of our sector: “You will deploy drones to do in minutes what used to take 50 farmers a whole day. You will design agritech solutions that make global investors ask, ‘Where did this come from?’ And the answer will be from you, from Nigeria.” Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, we remain committed to driving innovation, mechanization and youth-led transformation in agriculture. I am honoured by the recognition from the students today. Our young people are the heartbeat of Nigeria’s agricultural future, and I am proud to stand with them. 🌱🇳🇬

Prices of food items are beginning to come down, but we know we’re not yet where we want to be. We’re putting new mechanisms in place to help bring down the cost of inputs, because reducing these costs is key to making food more affordable. Our farmers remain the engine of growth — the productive centre and the foundation of our food system. Everything we do is to support their hard work.
