At #NasscomGlobalConfluence2026, I sat down with Neha Khanna, Senior Anchor and Editorial Advisor, Times Group to unpack a question that's quietly reshaping global power: Is the India–US tech partnership evolving into something far more consequential?
Key insights:
• Technology as strategic power: Partnerships in AI, semiconductors, cyber capabilities, and advanced manufacturing are reshaping alliances, transcending pure business collaboration.
• India's tech trajectory: From a services hub to a co-creator of frontier technologies, India must move beyond middle management to lead in emerging AI and deep tech ecosystems.
• Innovation over policies: As always, innovation shapes technology alliances faster than policy, with India needing a sharper focus on foundational tech like AI, quantum, and deep tech to stay ahead.
With the India–US relationship at a pivotal point, the future of this alliance depends on bridging policy and innovation to empower joint leadership in global frontier technologies.

Technology is India's emerging soft power, but our ability to lead depends on how we evolve from a talent hub to a global innovation leader.
At #NasscomGlobalConfluence2026, Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, Former Diplomat, and an Author, and Rajesh Nambiar, President, Nasscom, engaged in a thought-provoking dialogue on India's opportunities and imperatives at the intersection of geopolitics, trade, and technology.
Dialogue centred on: GCCs are powerful proof of India's value as a growth destination but the country must decisively move past the 'back-office' narrative.
Developing competitive capabilities in AI, semiconductors, and rare-earth materials is what will position India as a architect of global value chains, not merely a link within them.
The conversation also drew attention to India's formidable digital foundation: 600M+ users, a maturing digital public infrastructure, and UPI now adopted across 19 countries. These are not just statistics. They are the building blocks of India's techno-diplomatic influence on the world stage.
But the central challenge was stated plainly: India must move from middle management to innovation leadership. In a fractured global order, that transition is not just an economic opportunity it is a strategic necessity.

Connectivity is the new sovereignty.
At #NasscomGlobalConfluence2026, Lt. Governor of Delhi, Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu, reminded us that modern nations are built on invisible infrastructure : data, digital platforms, and the bold vision to deploy them at scale.
India's DPI, UPI, AI Mission, and Semicon Mission aren't just policy initiatives.
They are proof points of what technology-first governance looks like and with UPI now adopted in UAE, France, and Singapore, the world is building on India's blueprint.
He emphasized that India’s transformative journey proves that connectivity and technology are essential assets for equitable growth and a progressive global digital future.
