This is largely excruciating nonsense. Children need calm, safe environments where the expectations are clear, scaffolded, and taught; where boundaries are upheld and consequences happen when they are breached-with support when required. Treating misbehaviour as a pathology, or children as China dolls, actually makes them less safe, more vulnerable.

Whole class detentions are indeed an awful thing. Nothing says 'I have no idea how to manage your behaviour and I honestly don't care' more than giving a penalty to everyone, innocent or guilty.

@tombennett71 My experience was always class detention for actions beyond me. Only thing it taught me was group punishment sucks. Hated those who thought it was vaguely reasonable.
