Our annual RCSI Millin Meeting took place on Friday, 8 November 2024 at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. With over 400 attendees registered, we were delighted to invite a range of surgical and medical audiences including NCHDs, Consultant Surgeons, Surgical Trainees, RCSI Staff and the wider healthcare community. Key highlights of our annual Millin Meeting event included our highly engaged RCSI Fellows and Members Networking Breakfast hosted by the RCSI President and Council, our 2 keynote sessions delivered by Dr Ayesha Noorani MB BChir, MA(Cantab), PhD, FRCS and Dr Ori D. Rotstein, MD, FRCSC, FAC, the launch of our brand-new RCSI Early Career Surgical Network, the 47th Millin Lecture delivered by Ms Christina Fleming and the launch of the new HSE eLearning module on the management of rare but life-threatening neck haematomas released by the RCSI National Clinical Programme in Surgery. The Symposium sessions were organised by the RCSI National Surgical Research Support Centre (NSRSC) and the Faculty of Surgical Trainers. Respectively. Led by Dr Anne Marie Byrne, the RCSI NSRSC provided updates on their ever-growing number of surgical trials they’re supporting while also hosting the RCSI National Surgical Research Competition Presentations whereby Mr Patrick Boland was the winner of the RCSI National Surgical Research Medial with the best overall presentation titled “Intratumoural variability of fluorescent signals may accurately classify rectal neoplasi”. The theme of supporting clinical trial initiatives could be seen throughout the event with multiple clinical trial representatives across Ireland in attendance. The RCSI Faculty of Surgical Trainers hosted Symposium II whereby Mr Enda McNulty was the keynote for the afternoon session.

Irish Hip Fracture Database National Report 2023 Professor Tara Coughlan shares the findings from the Irish Hip Fracture Database Organisational Survey 2023. Fifteen of the 16 hospitals participated in the 2023 organisational survey. This survey helps add a deeper understanding of the clinical audit findings by looking at local hospitals’ staffing, local policies and pathways of how care is delivered. #HipFracture2024 🔗d7g406zpx7bgk.cloudfront.net/x/c12d0964b2/i…

Mr. Keith Synnott, National Clinical Lead for Trauma Services @TraumaCareIrl provides an update on Ireland's trauma system, advancing care and outcomes for trauma patients nationwide. Under development at the moment is a standardised definition of a trauma team. There is also a 1800 Trauma process. The 1800 phone number allows one phone call to be made so there is a central place for referrals and transfers @MaterTrauma @CorkTrauma @Beaumont_Dublin @AmbulanceNAS #HipFracture2024
