@ForwardCarolina Forcing costs upwards with the ACA, acting surprised when they go up, and demanding subsidies isn't what I would call a smart long term plan.

What conservatives have managed to do is fight against and chip away at the ACA's protections bit by bit. Healthcare is still too expensive to far too many Americans - and getting more so, as Congress today refuses to extend support for ACA subsidies. They're choosing to make healthcare more expensive. Bad!

Conservatives have railed against the Affordable Care Act for 15 years running now. Yet despite having multiple opportunities to "repeal and replace" it, as they swore to do, they've never actually done so. Why? Answer: it's because the ACA was actually a major success. Conservatives still hate it because it's associated with former President @BarackObama, still the most popular political leader in America. Consider: because of the ACA, the number of uninsured Americans was cut in half. Tens of millions of Americans have access to healthcare today who otherwise would not. Moreover: after decades of healthcare spending eating the American economy, something changed in 2010/2011. Guess what it was?

Interesting word choice. The "promise" of affordable healthcare. That's all it was, a promise. The reality is the complete opposite. #ncpol

The ACA was a gift health insurance companies could only dream of. Giveaways and hubris disguised as compassionate care. Many Republicans and Democrats are both bought by the insurance industry, and are too cowardly to make the hard decision to take away something "free" given to their voters. Health insurance premiums and profits have only soared after the ACA, and the only solution proposed is more subsidies from the government as a bandaid / giveaway for a broken system. And universal healthcare / Medicare for all would just be the biggest bandaid / giveaway leading to months long delays for lower quality care (queue cherry picked data in the replies). Better middle ground might be a subsidised HSA style care that motivates people not to over use what's feels like "free".

@nckhui FYI, this is a difference of 0.7% And that large shocking number they chose is the difference in taxable property value, not a tax revenue number. Remember, if you see percentages without totals, or totals without percentages, you're being manipulated.

Raleigh gets bad news on property tax revenue: An $800+ million hit to its base. Officials cite a loophole in NC law that allows a tax exemption for affordable housing even when the owners are mostly for profit. (Via Josh Shaffer) newsobserver.com/news/local/cou… #ncpol #ralpol

I love when I find some debunking article that claims to show some definitely true claim is false, and I discover that they've just never debunked the claim. Sometimes, they'll say a claim is false because some other, irrelevant claim isn't true. Fact-checkers are incredible!

Under the JCPOA, Iran was allowed to delay inspections for 24 days. During that time they would scrape 3 feet of topsoil from, and pave over, inspections sites, all while building their ballistic missile capabilities and range. How was that meaningfully preventing Iran from obtaining a nuke? usatoday.com/story/news/wor…

Obama agreed to $1.3 billion in sanctions relief for Iran as part of a deal that prevented both an Iranian nuke and a war. Trump withdrew from the deal, started a war that will likely result in Iran obtaining a nuke, and gave Iran $14 billion in sanctions relief.

🚨U.S. to allow Iran to get ~14 billion dollars (!!!) in oil revenue 🚨This is a huge financial concession to Iran by the U.S. 🚨It is the first time U.S. is buying Iranian oil since 1996 🚨It's all happening in the middle of a war against...Iran

Reminder: If you're not a criminal, your likelihood of being a homicide victim is vanishingly small. The homicide rate–a victimization rate–is high for criminals because victims and offenders strongly overlap.

Glad to see you sharing the good news! People not up to speed might see this and worry, not realizing it's fueling massive amounts of our country's GDP, job, and wage growth. America is becoming the dominant leader in the new multi-trillion dollar AI information age. pwc.com/gx/en/services…

Datacenters now consume 7% of all electricity demand in the United States, according to Goldman Sachs Global Research. That's up a whole percentage point in the last 12 months, and it's still rocketing upward.

I read your poll. You don't see any meaningful difference between these two statements? 1. The explicit mass murder of innocent civilians is sometimes justified. 2. Violence may be necessary to save our country I have no problem saying I'm concerned with both, and one a little more than the other. The fact you can't say the same is telling.

I'm not a Christian, and any attempt to establish a Christian theocracy would be a threat to our nation. (and that video is a strange non-sequitur) Are you at all concerned with the 1 in 5 Muslim Americans who say that suicide bombing is sometimes justified? I'm expecting silence or a pivot. Let's find out which.

Remember: A lot of foolish people use the phrase "No Evidence" maliciously. It can mean there's evidence against something, evidence for it and the establishment rejects it, no evidence on some topic in the first place, or really, any number of things!

APs are getting easier, but they are still highly meritocratic compared to not just high school grades but college grades. Most students who get an A in a college class would be lucky to get a 3 on the corresponding AP.

This is what grade inflation looks like. AP exams suddenly became easier. So when your local school, district, or state touts record AP participation and passage rates ... now you know why. Source: fordhaminstitute.org/national/comme…
