An army of migrant workers keep Singapore’s billion dollar tourism industry going ~ like these men scaling a canopy on Sentosa leisure island in 33 degree heat to repaint it 🥵

It’s been fascinating chatting to people in Singapore over the past couple of weeks about how work life has changed since the pandemic. Interesting seeing locals taking on jobs previously done by migrants & hearing about new flexible working trends, in particular 🌏

Prof Russell King schooled us all on tropes of migration at the #IMISCOE2024 semi-plenary today! One such trope, the question “where are you (really) from?”, is a discursive instrument of power & act of “othering” - it was so refreshing to have this recognised & unpacked today.

Never thought I’d see Professor Russell King use ‘wtf’ in a talk, but I love it! #IMISCOE2024

1 hour later, this semi-plenary has already provoked some great conversations with colleagues 😅 How is intersectionality used in harmful ways? Can these realisations actually change things for our participants? Are researcher positionality statements narcissistic?! #IMISCOE2024

Wonderful and though provoking messages at @IMISCOE semiplenary on reflexivity & intersectionality! Unsurprisingly, we at GenSeM think this is a pivotal topic

Does anyone know of research-based resources in a creative & accessible format sharing the stories/perspectives of Mexican migrants to the US? This is for a teenage audience 😁 Thank you @IMISCOE @GenSeM3 @imiscoe_mitra
