@BeaneaterB @KevinVT90 Throwing 150 IP “healthy” is not ace level workload, IMO. You can disagree. I don’t particularly care.

@BeaneaterB @KevinVT90 Oh you can fuck right off for assuming I’m an Ahole for not buying into your narrative. Volume matters in pitching. Fact is the volume has not been there, for Sale regardless of the particular reason. I have a higher tier for ace than you do.

@BeaneaterB @KevinVT90 Assuming an event to occur which has happened 1/8 latest years when the major variable (age) is predicting against you is exactly my point. You believe. That’s fine.

@NeuroPatch @BeaneaterB Most of those injuries are freak incidents. There is nothing at all predictive of falling off a bike and breaking a wrist or having your pinky finger blown up by a line drive hit back at you.

@NeuroPatch @KevinVT90 Missing time for a freak injury does not predict you missing future time. This is the most ignorant conversation I’ve ever been apart of.

@BeaneaterB @KevinVT90 He’s pitched exactly one season over 126 innings since before COVID was a thing. And he’s 37. You know what predicts missing future time? Missing time. I actually think Sale is a total dog on the mound, but volume 100% matters. And Sale absolutely positively does not have it.

@KevinVT90 @NeuroPatch I’m still laughing at, “injury filled 2025”. He had one injury. A cracked rib from diving for a ball. He still threw 125+ IP with a 2.58 ERA and a 2.67 FIP. Anyone trying to say Chris Sale isn’t an ace just has their head filled with silly putty.

@BeaneaterB You’re lost if you think Skenes falls into that category lmao. Age + minor/major league appearances matter. He’s been healthy.

@BeaneaterB Sale has a history of weird injuries. On the field, off the field, etc. Yes, missing significant time due to breaking a rib falls into that category.

@BeaneaterB I mean we can be honest right? Sale was an ace in 2024. He proceeded to follow it up with an injury filled 2025. Par for the course for him. Fantastic pitcher. But if your definition of ace involves workload Sale is not it.

@BeaneaterB @BravesSufferer Also he’s still walking a ton of people. Sure the K’s are awesome, but he’s facing inferior talent on average. Let him go to AAA, get some time there (consistent appearances), and if he looks good then bring him up.

I think it more so speaks to the depth that the Braves have built. There are 6 MLB locks in the bullpen. They’re probably going to carry Suarez as the king man. A job Karinchak doesn’t fit. And then they’re probably going to carry a 6th starter. There honestly just isn’t room for him right now.

Atlanta Braves@Braves

The #Braves today optioned LHP Dylan Dodd to Triple-A Gwinnett, and reassigned RHP JR Ritchie, C Sandy León, INF Luke Williams, OF José Azócar and OF Ben Gamel to minor league camp. Atlanta now has 36 active players in camp.

@nyttypos @TJStats Lefties crushed him last season, but in 2024 he was better vs lefties, and in 2023 it was close to even. So a bit mixed. Likely will be an area of development, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see the Phillies tweak with his approach vs LHB this season.

@TJStats I believe he has been awful against lefties for his career and was throughout this spring, though he did strike out one (and walk another) today

Jonathan Bowlan struck out the side in his outing today! The newly acquired Philly dialed up his fastball to the high 90s while feeding in a medley of secondaries to generate 7 whiffs on the day. He is going to be an important part of the Phillies bullpen this season!

@2021Hawks @JonPgh I’d wager teams care much, much less about results than the underlying peripherals and metrics. But we can disagree on that.

@NeuroPatch @JonPgh I don’t think it’s that black and white. The team absolutely cares about his results this spring, and will take them into consideration in the next weeks/months. His results showed improved fastball and sweeper. We learned about his repertoire and ability. All valuable decisions

unfortunately, Didier Fuente is still throwing his fastball two-thirds of the time. It's too much for an MLB starter. Only seven SPs used one pitch more than 55% of the time last year (all were four-seamers): 1) Ryne Nelson 62% 2) Sean Manaea 61% 3) Bowden Francis 58% 4) Ben Brown 56% 5) Mitchell Parker 56% 6) Jacob Misiorowski 55% 7) Cam Schlittler 55%

@2021Hawks @JonPgh It’s spring training, not the World Series. Results don’t matter. Many pitchers are throwing different pitch mixes to work on things (often times forced by the team). Mowing down minor leaguers in the spring (he’s faced an average of a AA player) isn’t a valuable dev decision.

@JonPgh I think sample size here is relevant. He only faced 27 hitters all spring, and gave up zero hits, indicating he didn’t have to move off the fastball. I hear this argument but we can’t determine his secondaries until he needs to throw them lol

@lisanalcraig @DaddyDimmuTv The Braves had told him to take it easy on routine ground balls. He hits the ball so hard that when he hits it on the ground it’s pretty much an automatic out.

@mlbbowman We’ll see how it translates. He’s also running 55% zone swing. Which is likely not a sustainable number. So yes he’s chasing less, but he’s also just swinging less in general, while facing what would be a MLB low zone% (42%) on pitches. Some of this is just bad pitching.
