Right to counsel is really important to guarantee renters a fair hearing in eviction court. The @NEWR_Boulder ballot measure passed in 2020 and now @NEWRDenver is trying to put a similar measure on the ballot. You don't have to be a Denver resident to help collect signatures!

This was the scene outside a #Denver apartment yesterday morning, as the sheriff showed up at 7 am to evict a young woman DURING AN EVICTION MORATORIUM. This is needlessly cruel. We need permanent protections for renters! #RightToCounsel

A tenant's blood plasma vs. the return rate that these multifamily investment companies promise their investors. That's the context under which evictions are occurring in #Denver and around the country. Our "rental system" is an extortion racket.

Behemoth corporate landlord @InvitationHomes suggests that tenants in arrears could fundraise by selling their own hair, plasma or donor eggs. Despite @CDCgov eviction moratorium they file for eviction and win. One cannot make this stuff up.

Even within the court system, the whole eviction process is set up to rely on a landlord’s word - that the eviction is lawful, the tenant has been properly notified, etc. #RightToCounsel makes sure the landlord’s voice isnt the only one in the room when losing a home is at stake!
