@TeeSwanJr @eastbank_dc @EleanorNorton @WABADC Yes indeed. It was an idea I promoted during my time as an ANC, and had the good fortune to suggest to the Council during last month's hearing on Kenilworth Ave infrastructure. DDOT did some work on this during their 2007 Kenilworth Ave study.

@dclisa01 @dcwater @DDOTDC Yes indeed. I'm going through my photos. We had floods on 6/14, 7/1, and 7/9. It's a problem going back to at least 2014.

@NE_DC_11 @dcwater @DDOTDC OMG DC needs to do something about this. They are pretending it's not a big deal. Didn't this block flood two weeks ago, max?

Those parts of kenilworth ave don’t have street trees or much shade. Lots of concrete too. It’s a harsh environment for walking.

@jtwalkerpsu Yes indeed. We’re in the same situation.

@NE_DC_11 I think Ward 7 and PG District 5 should link up to address these flash floods around Beaverdam Creek and the Anacostia. It used to only occur every few years. Now the climate is more extreme and it’s happens every summer, sometimes multiple times.

Flooding in NE DC after heavy rain earlier. Several inches of rain fell quickly here.

When construction for 295 began in the early 1950s, it took out over 35 homes in the Kenilworth and Eastland Gardens community, several stores, a popular nightclub, and a church. planning.dc.gov/sites/default/…

@heymsrebecca Not thrilled by that answer. Gov't shouldn't be shifting the risk to residents because of inadequate infrastructure. Also, was it Silver Jackets? Watts Branch is a concern for Mayfair and Paradise folks as well. Doesn't affect this exactly, but still important.

@NE_DC_11 They just had a flooding forum a week or 2 ago. They only had plans for watts Branch, which is good for my smd, but nothing for anyone else. They are putting the onus on citizens to strictly rely on flood insurance.

When addressed to the proper channels, they all know that this is happening, and created no plans for solution or investment. Let’s start doing the work in regards to floods in Deanwood & Kenilworth @marycheh. Find the money @ChmnMendelson

@TunnelRatDC This is it exactly. My biggest worry in this discussion is that we rush to spend a bunch of money to lock in this dysfunction for another two generations.

@heymsrebecca @marycheh @ChmnMendelson Exactly. These topics have been brought to the agencies' attentions for years. During my time as commissioner I was in frequent contact with DDOT staff over safety issues such as lighting and snow removal in the pedestrian bridges. I was not the only one.
