@the_smart_ape Trump created the USCMA last term and just torched it. Trade deals signed by the the USA are worthless.

Trump said it’s a great time to create new rich and he's not wrong. Here’s what will happen in the next weeks/months; and no, the dip isn’t here yet: 1/ Countries will continue responding to Trump’s tariffs. China already did, but most others haven’t yet. And unless you’re a superpower, you don’t just answer the U.S. overnight. These responses take time. 2/ Market will be pushed down. Traditional assets will continue to drop, and crypto even harder as it’s still seen as risky, so it’s the first thing people dump when things go hard. 3/ Demand for safe-haven assets like gold will increase. Bitcoin isn’t fully seen as a safe haven yet (even though it is), so we’ll probably see gold rising while BTC continues to drop for now. 4/ Central banks will step in and cut interest rates to dynamise the economy. The real bottom will hit just before those rate cuts happen. 5/ After that, we should start to see a recovery, with both traditional and crypto markets rebounding. 6/ New trade agreements will be made between the U.S. and other countries. The U.S. will likely come out with favorable terms, but overall, these deals should bring more stability to global trade. 7/ Next cycle ... If you know how Trump negotiates, this fits his pattern; go in strong, create leverage, then sit down to negotiate from a position of strength. The most important thing now is not to panic. Stay calm, be strategic, and look for the right entry point. The crypto market may take a serious hit in the short term; but that just means there’s strong upside once things stabilize. Hopefully you’ve kept some cash on the side… Because the real discounts are coming.

@JaeKim1089208 @APompliano Canada hasn't refused anything. They invested 1.3 billion lately to help secure the border as a negotiating tactic, only 1% of American fentanyl is from here (mostly smuggled in by American mules) and finally, illegal immigration is hardly an issue through Canada.

For those who don’t know: This trade war is being kicked off for three reasons: the U.S. wants Canada’s and Mexico’s help in reducing the flow of illegal immigrants and fentanyl into the US, and the Trump administration wants to address the growing trade imbalance under the USMCA (US-Mexico-Canada free trade agreement), which replaced NAFTA in 2020. The imbalance has become significant, and it would be beneficial if all parties agreed to negotiations. These three requests from the Trump administration don’t seem unreasonable. So what exactly is Trudeau and the Mexican government refusing to back down from? Stopping illegal immigration, stopping fentanyl, or resolving an unfair trade imbalance?

The tariffs really illuminate who wants America to be successful and who is only tolerant of American success if it personally benefits them.
