@KingBobIIV I am a paramedic and can absolutely guarantee you that COVID was/is very real. And there is no way over 1 million NHS workers would collude with a Tory government to enable a conspiracy.

Today is International Paramedics Day, so a huge thank you to my friends and colleagues whether civilian, military or volunteers. Whether managing motorsport medical care, bringing me patients when I’m trauma team leading or teaching on the ATACC course, y’all rock.

@ResusCouncilUK Not surprising when we know the quality of cor delivered to patients is sub-optimal. Real-time feedback (rate, depth and recoil) is the only way to deliver HQ manual CPR. This fundamental intervention needs to be started at the earliest opportunity to optimise outcomes.

In the UK, fewer than 1 in 10 people survive a cardiac arrest. That’s not good enough, and it’s why we’re working towards a day where everyone has the skills to save a life. With widespread CPR knowledge, we can change these odds and save more lives.

A common misconception Lee. The number of calls requiring a response is less than in 2018, largely due to increases in H&T. Resources on duty have increased by 15% since 2018. More resources are attending fewer calls. The main problem is ambulance services are doing less with more.

@JacquiDeevoy1 Just go through the body scanner. Tge radiation you will receive is not dangerous as it will penetrate less than 1mm of your skin. A day spent sunbathing is probably more dangerous.

A good friend of mine is currently at Gatwick Airport about to go on holiday. After refusing going through the body scanner (because she believes they’re harmful to the body) and refusing a strip search (for obvious reasons), they conducted a search on her using a electronic wand which she said “they practically poked into my vagina”. Nothing suspicious was found but the ‘officers’ still insisted she had to have a strip search in a private room. She refused and, as a result, has now been told she’s not allowed to board the plane. Last time I refused the scanner at the airport, I was told to get in a different - longer - queue. I was patted down by a burly lesbian (and, before anyone asks, I have excellent gaydar) but there was no mention of a strip search. My friend is embarrassed, upset and crying and says she feels intimidated, humiliated and violated. She believes she’s been targeted as she’s a well-known TV personality. I’ve had a look online and it appears the airport staff are in the right: when did the rules change? Yet another example of ridiculous and invasive UK restrictions.

@EMDocJB @Pipes_n_pumps @heli_med_james @ehaatClinical I guess what I am trying to highlight is that we should not take that “ticket of entry” as granted. Good BLS is hard to do, and I get concerned as lots of clinicians get excited about the “gucci” stuff, sometimes forgetting the essentials. I get excited when I excellent CPR.

@NGParkes83 @Pipes_n_pumps @heli_med_james @ehaatClinical Any advanced technique needs a “ticket of entry” that guarantees the essentials (not basics) are already being undertaken and that this isn’t a futile case. Hence the original SPEAR algorithm has a rapid assessment phase before moving to femoral cannulation.

@Pipes_n_pumps @heli_med_james @ehaatClinical And from there we can fine tune the metrics and build on the advanced resuscitation techniques. I think sometimes we think that one intervention can replace another when I fact they are complementary. Doing great BLS does not mean we cannot monitor AoDBP. 2/2

@Pipes_n_pumps @heli_med_james @ehaatClinical Well the ROC data gives us some idea that the current metrics are probably a good starting point. And we know that the vast majority of CPR is not compliant with the current metrics. I still believe that once this is fixed we will see benefit for our patients 1/2

@Pipes_n_pumps @heli_med_james I welcome the day when the majority of Chest compressions are delivered to high quality standard. And that defib pads are placed in the correct position We still need to fix the very fundamentals of resuscitation before doing anything too fancy.

@heli_med_james I welcome the day that the arbitrary 2 min cycles of CPR (in adult and paediatric) ALS are removed for more advanced, expert providers, who can adopt a more nuanced and physiologically-tailored approach

Just a reminder that you can resuscitate a shock patient infinitely faster through an 18-gauge IV in their vein than a 14-gauge IV in the sharps container

There are 6.2m Catholics in the U.K. and for us tomorrow is a holy day of obligation and fasting, with Lent lasting until Easter. The largest religious group in the U.K. is still, by far, Christian👇Many of whom will give something up for Lent as part of the Christian tradition of fasting. I am looking forward to all the messages of support and engagement for this Christian religious observance from all the politicians who love to put out such missives for other faiths. In the meantime, enjoy all the pancakes on this Shrove Tuesday.
