@BBCPolitics @BBCOne Dear BBC. Don’t you have a responsibility to provide balance on news programmes? Two Tories and one Reform with no other opposition represented is not balance. It is populist drivel. #bbclaurak

@atrupar Comrade Lyutnitskov has gone too far... His last sentence should have read "That's a patriot!"

@CynthiaLarbey @dominicgrieve_ I think he should feel proud that he kept his cool, did not allow Trump to silence him by talking over him, maintained politeness and defended himself and the country he leads.
English

@dominicgrieve_ I cannot imagine how President Zelenskyy must be feeling. What an unutterable farce it has all been.

The events this week confirm for me the opinion I expressed in my last post.
Pleased as I am that our PMs visit to Washington seemed to be reasonably successful, it is hard not to see the entire week as a performative pantomime orchestrated by Trump. He placated France and the U.K., whilst preparing for a deliberate and choreographed attack on President Zelensky, a visiting head of state, that guaranteed the failure of his visit. The behaviour of Trump and vice President Vance was outrageous-as a piece of theatre it was straight from the playbook of Hitler's summons of President Hacha of Czechoslovakia to Berlin in 1939 to sign away its independence. Zelensky was entitled to say what he did. There was nothing remotely disrespectful about it. He stood up to the crude bullying that now seems the hallmark of the Trump administration.
Even more chilling is the sense that we are seeing much more clearly Trump's motives. It is not about "peace" but doing a deal with Putin's Russia-Ukrainian land and people to be traded for the benefit of Russian raw materials. Just like the Hitler-Stalin Pact and we know how that ended.

@aviationcomment @dominicgrieve_ "It was good television, Jim, but not how he wanted it!"
(as Mr Spock never said)

@dominicgrieve_ As Trump said " It'll make good television...."

@FergusOLenin @dominicgrieve_ Oh, top marx there, young Fergus!

@dominicgrieve_ I suspected an orchestrated spat with Zelenskyy eventually leading to a joint US-Russia carve up of Ukraine. Not being a historian, I didn’t see the Hitler-Hacha connection. Thanks for pointing that out.

@P_Kallioniemi And his Dad is saying to the headmaster (out of shot), "I've had a serious discussion with Donald, Headmaster, and I promise you he won't behave like that again!"

@TheRichFromCali It's not my call. It's up to the voters in the US of A.

@UpdateNews724 Absolutely! Russia first invaded Ukraine in 2014 and the second time in 2022. Large numbers of people have been killed and huge areas of Ukrainian towns and infrastructure have been destroyed by this Russian aggression.

“Since 2016 EU referendum, evidence has mounted that Russian interference helped secure the narrow ‘Leave’ victory.
By weakening the EU and sowing division, Brexit played into Vladimir Putin’s hands while delivering no tangible benefits to Britain.
Putin has long viewed the collapse of the Soviet Union as a “major geopolitical disaster” and has consistently sought to weaken the EU while restoring Russian influence over former Soviet states.
Brexit was a significant strategic win for Moscow.”
An article by @Jon_Danzig everyone needs to read.
