VIDEO | Dehradun: A dispute between two car occupants over overtaking escalated into gunfire early in the morning. A retired brigadier, who had stepped out for a morning walk, was hit by a bullet and died. During the incident, one of the car occupants was assaulted and his vehicle was vandalised. The attackers, who were involved in both the assault and the firing, fled the scene. The victim of the assault, identified as Mohit, told PTI that he was on his way home when the other individuals took offence at his overtaking. He alleged that they were under the influence of alcohol. 'It happened in the morning, around 6–7 am. I was driving home when my car moved slightly ahead of theirs. They seemed to be under the influence of alcohol and took it as an ego issue. After about 1–2 kilometres, they started following me closely, and then 2–3 people pulled out guns and began firing. When they opened fire, my car lost balance after a bullet hit the tyre, and it crashed into a tree. After that, they dragged me out of the car and started attacking me with rods and sticks... I was extremely scared and just trying to save my life...I couldn’t clearly see their vehicle number plate...", said Mohit.

It started having more people, more students & more tourists. It led to more crime with more gang wars & more road rage; mostly in the evening & night. Phase Three: Today, March 30, 2026; the city has moved a notch higher on the road rage & crime scale. It lost Brig Joshi (70), a veteran from Intelligence Corps, Indian Army. He was allegedly caught in a cross fire between two cars, driving at high speed & firing on Rajpur Road. Brig Joshi's fault? He was on his morning walk when the stray bullet incident took place between 6.45 and 7.00 AM. The retired officer collapsed on the spot & was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. What changed? We lost an innocent life. Lost in a city & state that has gradually become the most fertile for gang wars, goons, errant tourists & criminals of all shades. With a firm crackdown by the @myogiadityanath govt. in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh; #Uttarakhand has become a safe haven for gangs & mafias of all sorts to flourish. I feel sad for where we have reached & deeply concerned for where we are headed. What Will Happen Next: We, the people will be told that someone in our state got angry & asked the police to quickly catch the criminals. It was a remote job, so he always kept his camera off and used AI to change his voice to sound like a woman. For months, no one doubted him. He was even the only “woman” in the team. Then one day, he heard that the manager had to fire one person. His performance was poor, so he knew he would be the first choice. So he told his manager that “she” was pregnant. The manager didn’t want any legal trouble, so he didn’t fire him. Instead, he became more supportive. Under the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, a pregnant employee cannot be dismissed during maternity leave, and her job and benefits are protected. Firing her can be treated as unlawful, leading to legal action, penalties, or compensation.

Instead of handling a simple disagreement like a civilised person, he loses complete control and blows cigarette smoke straight into the face of airline staff. This is not just rude, it's dangerous, disrespectful, and a serious safety hazard at the airport. Such entitled behaviour cannot be tolerated. Brigadier VK Joshi, 70, served the Army for three decades, survived war and multiple counterinsurgency operations, but lost his life to a stray bullet in a pointless clash between a group of urban dehatis. A Delhi-registered Fortuner overtook a Scorpio N on Mussoorie Road in Dehradun, which hurt the ScorpioN occupants ego. The ScorpioN occupants gave chase. When the Fortuner didn’t yield, the ScorpioN group of urban dehatis pulled out a pistol and started firing. At that very moment, Brigadier Joshi was out on his morning walk. A bullet from that reckless exchange found him. His friends rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. A life of service ended by someone else’s arrogance. As far as the urban dehatis are concerned, I'm sure they'll be out on bail in no time.
