The way you speak to your baby becomes the way they will speak to others. And to themselves. Check out this little one’s encouraging words, directed at a pair of scissors faced with a difficult job. Once you’ve taken a moment to enjoy its humor, take just another to consider what this video tells us about our hero’s interactions with the significant adults in her life. We only have 5 seconds to get to know her…and yet we learn so much about the love and encouragement she’s shown daily. The tender tone. The encouraging words. They aren’t spoken by coincidence. They’re a mirror on those who love her the most and who speak to her with the very same regard. Children learn what they live. This well loved little one was shared to IG by babymakinglaugh.

Did you just find your feet? 👣 The question may sound a little funny to us as adults, but the truth is that - like most things - babies’ awareness of their bodies is a developmental process that happens over time. And this sweet little one has just unlocked a new milestone. Between 4-8 months of age, babies discover their feet. While laying on their backs, babies not only begin to watch and coordinate the movement of their feet, but begin reaching for them with their hands and exploring them with their mouths. (Babies are flexible like that.) What you’re seeing here also involves the engagement of abdominal core muscles and is a sign that our hero is soon to begin rolling and crawling. So get ready, mom and dad, this little one is about to go mobile. This little one and all ten of her newly discovered toes were share to IG by ownitbabe.

Sit and spin! Yesterday we talked about the development of crawling. But I’m just as fascinated by the complex array of motor and cognitive skills on display here as this little one mimics his spinning toy giraffe. Watch how he manages to coordinate use of his arms and legs to revolve just as the toy does… using his heels to push off into the same counter clockwise spin and his arms to build and maintain momentum. But it not just that he can revolve. He manages to: - roughly approximate the speed of the toy’s rotation - visually track the giraffe, using its cues to start and stop his movement on demand, as if playing a game of “red light, green light” - time his singing to match the periods of rotation. So much happening in this rapidly developing brain, still less than a year old. 🧠 This video was shared to IG by toddlersbeingslightlyfunny.
