We need clarity & we can’t have conflicting laws. But children should not be subject to criminal penalties for something that is decriminalized or legalized for adults. There are ways to disincentivize youth use without arresting kids & burdening them with criminal records.

Weed legalization/decriminalization delayed AGAIN. Technical issue with the decrim bill. Murphy wants to sign the legalization and decrim bills at once. But that's unlikely to happen ahead of a legislative fix, which is unlikely before 1/1/2021. 🔒subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2020/1…

Good recap from advocates, politicians, and industry insiders on what NJ is doing to legalize cannabis. Stay tuned for regulators to put plans into action and get licenses out in 2021. inquirer.com/business/weed/…

Today is historic. For years, @ACLUNJ & @NJU4MR has led the effort to legalize cannabis, and today the legislature will vote on bills to make it happen. In our leadership we never sacrificed principle and led with racial justice at every step. A thread on how we got here: 1/

BREAKING: The New Jersey Legislature JUST PASSED A21/S21, the bill to legalize cannabis. The bill now heads to @GovMurphy's desk to be signed into law! Now, New Jersey is just a step away from beginning to repair communities devastated by racist cannabis law enforcement.

Thanks to John Bailey and the CCABC for this great event pulling together key advocates on Friday at 3:00-5:45. NJ is legalizing cannabis... Will enabling legislation promote equity, home cultivation, industry diversity & felony inclusion? I'll be there on behalf of @DFCRorg.

UPDATE: Assembly Appropriations moved S21/A21 out of committee today, with significant community reinvestment provisions. Now, it's official. The New Jersey Legislature will vote on two cannabis bills on Thursday: one that decriminalizes cannabis and another that legalizes it.

The House of Representatives just approved the Medical Marijuana Research Act—the second marijuana reform bill to make it through the House in less than a week. The bill would significantly expand scientists' ability to conduct medical research on marijuana.

I can’t believe there are still states where cannabis is still illegal. I can’t believe as I type this people are sitting in jail for possession of a plant.

We said it before and we'll say it again: marijuana legalization MUST center racial justice and prioritize people + communities harmed most by the War on Drugs. We've signed on to a letter alongside 30+ advocates and organizations to deliver that message to the Legislature. 👇👇

We need legislation that uplifts people of color in the cannabis market and reduces barriers to accessing licenses and reinvests into the community. Changing the language in New Jersey’s latest legalization bill can do just that:

NEW: Congressional Budget Office says the marijuana legalization bill the House passed last week would add $13.7 billion in net revenue to the federal budget. It would also cut 73,000 years worth of prison time and save $1 billion in incarceration costs. marijuanamoment.net/house-passed-m…
