Working with a Year 5/6 class & teachers in Oxford on this fantastic @gareth_metcalfe ‘Explore’ task. Children worked practically & commonly made connections between several concepts. They demonstrated varying degrees of mathematical reasoning, including in their journalling.

2/2: …one teacher with their class. The consistent learning needs of children aged 5-9 were clear. Like many primary aged pupils in the UK, the need to move children on from counting in ones was evident - strengthening visualisation skills using structured manipulatives!

During a @BBOMathsHub school visit today, this example of children being taken towards making generalisations was seen in a Year 4 maths book. It was evident that the TRG Lead, who had been promoting this idea during the year, had positively influenced the teacher’s task design.

It's come around again quickly! Final packing for my flights to New Zealand for the second time in as many months. I'm excited to open & speak @Numicon New Zealand's conference next week! Just a small matter of 12,000 miles & 32 hours of travel to navigate first! Wish me luck 💪🏼
