Tonight at #Brentwood’s auspicious Annual Council meeting you are going to see some electoral sleight of hand.
On May 7th @reformparty_uk won half the borough council seats and all of the town’s County seats.
Yet in a desperate attempt to cling to power, the local Liberal Democrats have cobbled together a coalition of Labour councillors, an independent and a Conservative to form an administration. A ‘sellotaped together’ hotch-potch of self-interest.
Reform want no part of this Heath Robinson manipulation of power.
Despite winning the election in Brentwood and across the UK this month, we will sit in opposition locally (albeit not in #Essex County Council which we won resoundingly) and hold these power crazed people to account.
Now watch as the ‘defectors’ are rewarded by the Lib Dems with ‘jobs’.
This is not right.

This ad perfectly frames Reform’s problem. Recognises the Brexit line is not a runner. But can’t identify a good attack. Andy Burnham is from the area. He can’t credibly be framed as a carpetbagger. Is Nigel Farage seriously going to bowl up to Makerfield and say “I understand your problems better than they guy who grew up round here, lives round here and left Westminster to be Mayor for this area for the past 10 years”.

Makerfield is now a battle between Robert Kenyon and Andy Burnham.
Robert, an Army veteran and local plumber who is certainly not a generic careerist.

Here’s Andy Burnham having a run. Politicians are a very strange bunch. So many of them like to get the TV cameras on them when they are jogging. Even the rather hefty Boris Johnson repeatedly did this. Why do politicians do this sort of thing? It’s so weird.
