25 years ago, the Netherlands made history by opening civil marriage to same-sex couples. 🎉 Today, we mark not just a milestone, but a commitment that requires ongoing effort to advance equal rights for all.

We stand stronger together. At a time when we in Europe must take greater responsibility for our own security, it is vital that countries are able to coordinate their efforts easily and swiftly. Today I was in Helsinki for the leaders’ summit of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF); a political-military partnership led by the United Kingdom and comprising ten like-minded European countries. The JEF countries conduct military exercises and can act jointly, including in support of NATO, the UN or other partnerships. The JEF partners are united in addressing threats in the Arctic region, play a leading role in supporting Ukraine and wish to work towards establishing a strong European pillar within NATO. During various sessions, we discussed support for Ukraine and security on the European continent. With the ongoing Russian threat and developments in the Middle East, it is all the more important to keep the spotlight on the war in Ukraine. Alongside the Netherlands, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, the United Kingdom and Sweden took part in this JEF meeting. President @ZelenskyyUa of Ukraine and Prime Minister @MarkJCarney of Canada joined us virtually today as special guests.

A meeting of the Joint Expeditionary Force will be held in Helsinki tomorrow. The JEF is a military partnership of 10 northern European countries. Its aim is to be able to take action quickly and effectively in the event of a crisis, both independently and in cooperation with organisations such as NATO and the United Nations. Ahead of the summit, I met with President @alexstubb of Finland this evening. The Netherlands and Finland have excellent relations and are like-minded countries in areas such as European security, the rule of law and human rights. We discussed the vital support for Ukraine, strengthening Europe’s role in NATO, and our concerns regarding developments in the Middle East. Afterwards I attended a working dinner with President Stubb, Prime Minister @jonasgahrstore of Norway and Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir of Iceland. We discussed the good cooperation between the Netherlands and the Nordic countries.

🔶 Today, the new Dutch government was sworn in by His Majesty King Willem-Alexander. 🔶 The ceremony marks the official start of the new coalition government, which consists of 18 ministers and 10 state secretaries from the parties of D66, @VVD and @cdavandaag.

Introductory visit to Mr @Halla_aho, Speaker of the Finnish Parliament. The ambassador was warmly welcomed with kind words in Dutch. They had an excellent exchange on our close bilateral ties, shared values, and how 🇫🇮&🇳🇱 can work together for a strong and secure Europe. Kiitos!

The ambassador laid a wreath on behalf of 🇳🇱. Speakers incl. Minister Adlercreutz, Yaron Nadbornik and the Austrian Ambassador. We must never forget the horrors of the Second World War and continue to rise up collectively against anti-Semitism and all other forms of intolerance.

Ambassador van der Burg attended the memorial service for those Jewish refugees who were deported from Finland on 6 November 1942. The ceremony took place last night at the Tähtitorninmäki memorial monument in Helsinki.

Eleven defense ministers incl 🇳🇱🇫🇮 met in Norway this week to discuss cooperation in the Joint Expeditionary Force coalition. @JEFnations The ministers discussed collaborative defense efforts and signed an agreement on an enhanced partnership with Ukraine. defensie.nl/actueel/nieuws…
