@AlanMorriss @alexelindsay The vaccine stops you from becoming seriously ill - it does not stop you from being a carrier. There is a time lag to effectiveness. Hence until the vulnerable are immunised it is not an individual's get out of jail card.

This issue is, appropriately, contentious. As a vaccinologist - & citizen & relative of people in at-risk groups - I fully support the UK decision to increase dose intervals of both our Ox/AZ product and the Pfizer product. I'd happily receive either with a >8w gap. Here's why 🧵

@glopesdev @openscience @AnneEUrai That would constitute a new instance. Science is different. The exact copyright of the paper has no intrinsic value in itself, only the ideas and knowledge behind it

@glopesdev @openscience @AnneEUrai Big difference is that software is protected by copyright while science is protected by patents. It's not just a matter of switching between the two- there's a fundamental difference in content

@AnneEUrai I am of the conviction that science has a lot to learn about this from the way large open-source software projects are coordinated. 1/n

@HayleyForrest88 ...demonstrated in an artificial filtration test with NaCl (common salt) particles of the size unreported in the paper. In any case, those specific figures of particle retention bear no real value on retention of viral particles in a normal communications environment

@HayleyForrest88 This is what the study actually concluded: medical masks confer lower risk of infection compared to cloth masks (I.e. medical masks are better). The study makes no comparison to not wearing a mask, no conclusions can be drawn on that. Particle retention (97 and 44% was ...

A reminder that migration is central to human history. Reportedly, even Nigel Farage's ancestors once fled to England to make a better life! Be wary of those who seek to deny others the opportunities their ancestors enjoyed. @ByDonkeys

@TimandraHarknes @mattwridley Given we are currently saying just 0.25% of the population are infected, then the actual risk of being infected by standing 1m from someone is at most 0.000065 or 0.0065%. Given that many if those infected will be symptomatic and isolating the real risk may be much lower again.

If anyone else is outraged by the absolute fuckery going on in this country check this out. It’s genius. And if you’re a bit bored give it a go 🙌🏼 When it comes to people’s health, the blatant lies, hypocrisy, stupidity & selfishness in our government should be called out.
