Gaming since the 80's Frogger rules test cricket rocks and I still believe in an 8 hour day, 40 hour working week and a decent wage for workers

@AverageJoe4444 @GPAIndiana @IndianaGPA pffft my middle son who was sneaking out of his bed in his nappies in the middle of the night to put in the commands needed to play on our commodore 64 is an IT engineer earning more than I ever have. His partner is someone he was gaming with from another country since he was 8.

You really understand grandkids when you've got two... and realize real quick, one is not like the other. One of them sits nicely, uses their manners, and could probably host a tea party for royalty without breaking a sweat. The other one? I'm pretty sure if I turned my back for five minutes, they'd reorganize the house, the dog, and possibly my entire belief system. One says, "Grandma/Grandpa, may I please have a cookie?" The other is already eating it... and negotiating tor two more. I love them both the same-but let's just say one of them came with an instruction manual... and the other one came with a warning label. 😂❤️

@Pipe42uk @Mykuhl Depends what they are contracted to do. Public hospitals deal with the car accidents, etc -costly things that private doesn't need to have the equipment for. Middlemore fixes for instance botched private cosmetic procedures. You can be more efficient when you can be selective.

I'm really torn on Waiparera Trust. I'm told by those I know on the ground that John Tamihere runs one of the best private healthcare organization New Zealand has ever seen. What they achieve with the funds they get is apparently far beyond what the ministry can do.

@PeachProof23 Tis just a roman villa really. Not that weird - not modern but not that weird. After doing Latin for years I always thought I should build a house like that.

This is what happens when 1970s luxury meets a complete fever dream. Step inside a house where "too much" was never enough. This isn't just an abandoned property; it’s an architectural time capsule that challenges every rule of interior design. The Layout That Makes No Sense Imagine a floor plan where every single room leads back to a massive, 12-foot-deep indoor pool. Forget hallways—navigating this house requires walking the perimeter of a tiled abyss that sits right in the center of the living area. A Sensory Overload Texture Everywhere: The design philosophy here was "if it stands still, carpet it." We’re talking blue and black shag carpeting stretching from the floors, up the walls, and across the ceilings. The Ceramic Secret: The garage and basement house a massive, frozen-in-time pottery operation. Thousands of white ceramic molds remain stacked to the ceiling, a silent ghost of a former business. The Kid Life: These weren't average bedrooms. Integrated Jacuzzis sat next to beds, and the playrooms featured functional, high-end toy appliances that most kids in the 80s only saw in catalogs. The Ultimate Retro Mystery From the leopard-print accents to the copper-tone pool tables and the Barbie-themed decor, every corner feels like a set from a movie that never finished filming. It’s a fascinating, slightly eerie look at a lifestyle of pure, unadulterated excess. Which feature is the most chaotic? 1. The Pool Living Room 2. The Carpeted Walls 3. The Secret Pottery Factory 4. The Bedroom Hot Tubs

@Insertuserusa @toluogunjobi23 My wife locked me out of the house and said I couldn't come back in til it grew again. Took about 3 hours til she relented but only if I promised to grow it back. Has gone from black to white now but still remains.

@CodveAi @Govindtwtt Robots and AI don't pay taxes so corporations will have revenue not governments. This has already happened without AI - once you had a supply chain that delivered records, books, software, movies. This created jobs within a country to import, distribute and sell. Now you just D/L.

Everyone says “AI will take all the jobs.” If that happens… how does this future actually work? No jobs → no income → no spending. So who buys things? Who pays rent? Who keeps the economy moving? What am I missing here?

@TheEasternOptic @CultureCrave This is why people are moving back to pirating. I've already moved to switching between the services on a monthly basis as opposed to having a few at a time. The level of increase is way too high.

People often romanticise life in the 1950s-60s but many aspects of it were quite basic. In 1956 only 81% of NZ households had access to a flush toilet, and just over 50% had a fridge or washing machine. Conditions were worse for Māori - only 31% had a flush toilet & 20% a fridge.

@Charteddaily 1962 I was born prematurely after my 5 foot 4 mother went into labour lifting the wet washing into the copper. Had a mangle for squeezing out the water and a chook run for eggs. Grandparents had an outside toilet until they died in the 80's and scrim on the walls in the house.

@CtrlAltDwayne I personally like Jira, it’s the best management software to me.. what I see is many devs dislike it because of the scrum process or the way their managers micromanage them using Jira 😅

I genuinely don't know how Atlassian is still alive. Every dev on earth hates Jira. They've made nothing but stupid acquisitions. Loom. Trello. DX. The Browser Company. Just collecting startups like Pokemon cards. Meanwhile the founders are sitting in their multi-million dollar properties while the company bleeds money. It's incredible.
Klaas@forgebitz

so atlassian has never been profitable sounds like a terrible stat for project management software

@KarinMary1 Further to notes below. You need to look at all the measures to get full context. What we see here is a steady increase in those who have no job and have applied for one in the last four weeks and a steady rise in those who want work or more hours. More people have given up.

Can anyone tell me if you are unemployed and not collecting the benefit, are you counted in the unemployment figures? I'm thinking one of a couple where the partner earns too much for the unemployed one to get a benefit. The unemployment figures may be even worse than reported.

@arnie03 @KarinMary1 You need to look at the movements between measures - not just the one rate to get a clearer picture. Using LEED and MEI jobs data i.e. how many jobs are there helps also to give context.

@arnie03 @KarinMary1 I was part of the survey for two years about the same time the kids left school / work. Over the two years we went from two working to all five. Each family member had to speak to the surveyor themselves.

@arnie03 @KarinMary1 If you had no job but were not applying for jobs then you are considered not in labour force. At times if economy starts improving unemployment rate can go up as more of this group start applying for jobs. Conversely unemployment rates can go down if people give up looking

@arnie03 @KarinMary1 You were counted as unemployed if you were not working and had not applied for a job in the last four weeks i.e. you had to be actively applying for jobs to be considered unemployed in the labour market. This is in line with international practise so countries can be compared.
