I commend Kenya on launching its National Cervical Cancer Elimination Action Plan.
This 5 year action plan aims to achieve the 90-70-90 global targets for 2030 to save girls and women from this preventable disease:
- 90% of girls vaccinated;
- 70% of women screened;
- 90% of women with pre-cancerous lesions treated
@WHO stands ready to support countries every step of the journey to eliminate cervical cancer and advance #HealthForAll.

Global military spending reached a record $2.7 trillion in 2024, with continued rises projected for 2025 amidst ongoing conflicts. Meanwhile, spending on global health initiatives has declined significantly. What the world needs is a greater focus on saving lives, not escalating confrontation.
Peace is the best medicine.
Strengthening Kenya’s frontline defense at points of entry.
WHO joined the Kenya National Public Health Institute (@NPHI_Kenya), @Port_HealthKE, @IOMKenya, and @KenyaRedCross for a Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) preparedness assessment and training for responders at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
The exercise enhanced early detection, triage, isolation, infection prevention, risk communication, community engagement, and infodemics management capacities among airport health teams and partners.
JKIA and Mombasa International Airport have been prioritized due to their direct connectivity with Ethiopia, where Marburg Virus Disease has recently been reported.
A similar session will be held later this week for responders at Mombasa International Airport, ensuring readiness across Kenya’s key points of entry.
The countdown is on to officially declare an end to the #Ebola outbreak in DRC 🇨🇩.
Dr @RamadanOtim, @WHOAFRO’s Programme Area Manager (Emergency Response), visited Bulape to meet with frontline teams and review progress on the ground.
“Cholera can be prevented by washing hands, drinking boiled water, and eating clean food.”
Meet Edward Lekai, a Grade 9 student at Elkarian Day and Boarding Primary School in Lolgorian, Narok County. Edward learned about cholera prevention both at school and at home through his teachers, posters, and his mother’s guidance.
He practices what he learns: washing hands after using the toilet, drinking boiled water, and avoiding food sold in unsafe places. Edward believes health education in schools is key to protecting families and communities.
The ongoing Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) campaign in Transmara West & South, Narok County—supported by @WHOKenya, Kenya Red Cross, and MSF—complements these awareness efforts.
