Just the neighborhood chicken lady. Corporate HR speak is the bane of my existence. Christinese is a close second.

@idobadtakes What gets me is that prices are the way they are because enough people ARE able to afford them. This can’t be possible without mass-affluence. The may cut prices a little if the house sits for a while but someone Will buy them.

The thing that people don’t talk about enough, is that for so many heritage Californians leaving their home state, it was business-style immigration that drove them out. Down in LA of course the Mexican problem has been a crisis for decades. But in Silicon Valley and Bay Area and the Sacramento area, it was the “best and the brightest.” The very thing that pro-immigration people say is helping America because of “STARTUPS!” (lol) is driving real Americans out. Culture and heritage mean way more to people than frivolous technology, GDP, and access to third world food. Many of the farms my father grew up working on and vast wooded areas he rode a dirt bike through are now hellscapes of stucco houses full of foreigners in foreign dress—government contractors, IT consultants, gas station owners, and on and on. All sorts of immigration—but especially more recently Indian and Asian—is decimating the old California spirit. Californians hate it. They don’t care about the alleged benefits of billion dollar unicorn startups or Big Tech companies that seek their cultural destruction.

You may be wondering why immigrants hate us so much. After all, they were allowed to come to America, and prosper greatly by doing so, and a large portion of the population bent over backwards to welcome them and make them feel at home. If you don't understand realpsych, you would expect them to be grateful. But that's not how people actually work. Human beings are grateful for gifts and favors only up to the point where they feel they can no longer repay them. Once that point is passed, once a person can no longer repay his debts, then he has a choice between two narratives for understanding the rest of his life. "I am a charity recipient, not a self-sustaining human being." "I was entitled to what I took from those people, because they are bad, or weak, or horrible, or something." In other words, if you give someone too much, more than they deserve, more than they can possibly earn, they become ungrateful little swine, precisely in order to preserve their own psychological well being. And they will surround themselves with others who participate with them in that collaborative lie. Sometimes people can make entire careers out of pandering to the over-privileged and under-deserving. Careers like "publicist". Or "immigration lawyer". And they will invent an entire mythos to preserve their self-worth. They will convince themselves that thriving off undeserved gifts makes them the elite of humanity, while those whose inheritance was taken from them are some mental stereotype of drunken "Biff", who partied his way through a second rate IT school. There's just one small problem that they must handwave away or ignore if they can. Biff's great-grandparents build America into the greatest nation on Earth. Biff's grandparents won WW2. Biff's parents invented the internet, and flew astronauts to the moon. Biff's entire tribe was thriving. Otherwise there would have been nothing to give to immigrants, and no reason for them to come here. Meanwhile, all of the places that the immigrants are coming from have existed a lot longer than America, and been filled with the ancestors of those immigrants, and lots of other people who are like them in every way. They had centuries, sometimes millennia, to get their shit together and build something where they were. They didn't. They had to go live in someone else's country, for "opportunities". Of course they have to pretend that they "deserve" those "opportunities" more than the very people whose ancestors created the "opportunities" in the first place. Because otherwise they would have to admit the one thing their self-esteem could never endure.... Leaving their own nations, and their tribes, was an admission of abject failure.

Why do so many companies suck? Well, it goes back to when the Dodge Brothers sued Henry Ford. Ford wanted to pay employees more and lower the price of cars, but the Dodge Brothers demanded that he maximize profit. Guess who the judge sided with? We are still living with the results today. Add in Blackrock, Vanguard….& you get a lot of really sh*try corporations.

I looked up the price on the 3 high school vehicles I had. Z28 Camaro, paid $6,700. Same car currently selling for $14,000. 1992 F250: paid $2,500. Same truck $25K+ 😭 1978 Chevy Pickup: paid $1,500. Same truck is current $17.5 - $30.5K C4C really did cause damage.

Dairy Queen in my city used to be a 20-something manager and a bunch of teenagers my entire life. Now it’s a grown ass adult family of Indians. It’s dirty, gross, slow, and you can barely understand them. Why? Why are they here? Why? I want to know why.

home depot has fallen off... bunch of disinterested people walking around with scanners and no expertise that place used to rule. you'd have a project and a 67 year old ex-foreman named Big Jim would walk you through your entire project. no more... my local Ace Hardware is where it's at now. that's where Big Jim and Joe and Old Ed, the guy who owned a plumbing business for 30 years, work now... happy to help and talk your ear off about washers and lug nuts for twenty minutes... you know, the good stuff.

“Personal responsibility” can perhaps, temporarily, ease the burden of bad policy decisions, but it cannot ever change the policy or outpace it. The average person isn’t going to be able to frugal their way out of insane inflation and increased demand pressure from open borders. The situation for jobs, housing, cars, basic costs like food and gasoline is abysmal for young people in the country. Just like I can’t keep moving to get away from foreigners, because they are everywhere, no amount of scrimping will undue decades of inflated prices while wages have flatlined. What people are expressing is frustration with a system of deliberate choices by those running the country. They are not asking for petty financial hacks to stretch the increasingly weak dollar for a few more crumbs.

@MSayswhy @DisaffectedPod I don’t have Netflix. I find it pretty degenerate overall and just can’t subscribe to everything all the time. Occasionally we subscribe to it for a few months to see a few things interest us.

@MSayswhy @DisaffectedPod I’ve seen this firsthand. It’s not all but it exists. The more neglected the Gen-X parent felt growing up, the more they want to be the advocate/protector for their child/teen that they wish they had.

@DisaffectedPod Gen X does seem to be turning out to be generally shitty coddling and permissive parents though, whom these dismissively and callously homicidal brats seem to be the progeny of (From the Netflix doc, The Crash, which I strongly recommend you see if you haven’t)

The real reason why cooking feels overwhelming for so many young people is simply bc their parents (primarily mothers) didn't teach them. They passed on almost no life skills and then are shocked when so many people struggle with said skills

@DisaffectedPod The Uneducated Economist has the best explanation. It’s the Cantillion Effect. I don’t want it to be true, I want a scapegoat and an easy answer just as much as anyone else but it really is the most logical explanation.

People who live in countries with rice and beans diets spend all day laying around in hammocks in the sun, taking breaks to have sex or watch soccer, then party until dawn. So the trade off is they eat Indio peasant gruel for three squares and wear shoes with holes in them in exchange for a leisurely simple life. I can see how a classical economist who just moved here from India could be like, wait a second, why don't we work people to death like Americans and feed them pollo con rice then pocket the difference? Efficiency! It was in front of us the whole time! But man are they playing with fire. Don't mess with peoples food, especially in America where it's the only thing we have.

@funnygamedev similarly, why is this "eat cheese and peanut butter sandwiches" discourse directed at the handful of people still working actual jobs and not the endless amount of welfare recipients? why is the discussion not about cutting THEM back to the bare minimum?
