I am disappointed with the decision by the Israeli police to prevent the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and the Christian Communities of the Holy Land from marking Palm Sunday at the Holy Sepulchre.    These actions further violate the longstanding status quo of Jerusalem’s Holy Sites. People of every faith in Jerusalem should be able to worship freely, fully, and without fear. I am pleased that President Herzog has contacted the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, to reaffirm this.

Islamic leaders have confirmed #AlQudsDay has nothing to do with their faith & have joined their voices with ours to call it what it is: Incitement of hate & violence against Jews. Statements aren’t enough, we need those with the power to intervene to do so—when will they?

I am disgusted by the targeted shootings at Beth Avraham Yosef of Toronto and Shaarei Shomayim synagogues. These cowardly acts of hate are meant to intimidate and instil fear. They are an attack on the Jewish community and on the fundamental right of every person in Canada to worship safely and freely. Our government will continue working closely with police to ensure that places of worship are protected and those responsible are held accountable. Antisemitism has no place in Ontario. We will never waver in our support for Canada’s Jewish community.

My friend @lesliechurch is correct this is despicable. And yes we all need to denounce it. And yes we need to pass the Combatting Hate Act immediately. But we also need to have all levels of government and police come together & agree to tackle this together as a priority.

Last night, two synagogues in Toronto, Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto in Thornhill and Shaarei Shomayim in North York were assaulted by gun shots. Earlier this week, Temple Emanu-El in North York was also maliciously attacked.  These criminal antisemitic attacks are an assault on the rights of Jewish Canadians to live and pray in safety. They are also fundamental violations of the Canadian way of life.  The federal government will use every tool available to confront antisemitic violence and hatred, and protect places of worship. Canada’s new government has introduced legislation to strengthen the Criminal Code, protect our communities, and combat hate.  Federal agencies, including the RCMP, will use every resource to support law enforcement to identify the perpetrators of these crimes and bring them to the full weight of justice.

Great meeting Deputy Leader of the Canadian Opposition and Conservative Party @MelissaLantsman in Jerusalem. We discussed the Palestinian Authority's distorted ongoing policy of paying salaries to terrorists and their families. We also spoke about the alarming rise in antisemitism around the world, and in Canada, and the need to unwaveringly combat it. I thanked her for her friendship and support for Israel.

Minister @AnitaAnandMP did the right thing in summoning Israel’s ambassador to explain the disgraceful conduct in turning away and manhandling an MP.
