Many companies open the door to foreign visa workers claiming they cannot find talent, then quietly filter for the labor that gives them the most control and flexibility. They get workers tied to the sponsor. Lower turnover risk during the visa window. Wage and benefit leverage that US workers rarely accept long term. Americans get the lecture about equal opportunity. The company gets the arrangement that actually benefits the spreadsheet. Engineers were the first to notice because we were among the first asked to train the replacements or sign off on systems that do not add up. We were told it was legit under title VII and DEI. Its frustrating to watch employers fill the role with visa labor while stating they couldn't find Americans like the ones they laid off in that role weeks prior.
