I understand what you are saying but there is definitely need for "on boarding" in a games design. Especially in a live service game that hopes to bring in newer players. It's okay for games to be brutal and hard and I like that but you can still make efforts to make the new experience better

I disagree wholly. The game is just hard and there are no short cuts. You just have to PLAY. There’s not secret there. You get better by playing, you learn by playing. You get a little tutorial and then warm up rounds on beginning only Perimeter. Each contract, each quest is a lesson. It’s ok to be bad at games. I’m bad. It’s not ok to blame a game you’re bad at for your lack of skill. It’s mirror time.

@Onepeg There is a veryyy small chance the game gets shut down anytime soon. If halo infinite was kept alive then this will as well. It is very possible the team gets downsized and the updates suffer as a result

@solgob_ Time. If they continue to update the game well and build out its foundation then it will bring in players. If they don't then well it won't.

@NeetChanMAIN @Onepeg Yeah I just hate to give too much credit too soon. They have done this multiple times with destiny, was insane at support and did everything right. Then acted like they didn't care again. Time will tell though but would be nice to have another top tier game

@NSCSGaming @Onepeg it'll definitely carve out its own group of dedicated players if sony lets them. Its nice that the director listens and is active on twitter. Asked him once if there was a way to show compatible attachments straight from the vault and a week later they actually added it as a QOL.

The good news is that it is a hole it can dig itself out of. All they need to do is keep doing good and build out its foundation more. I don't watch a lot of streams myself but I have watched a lot of marathon. I like the direction it's taking and I really hope they continue that route.

@NSCSGaming @Onepeg Yeah the timing of the release and the visuals are probably the hardest aspects of it. I never watched streams but I wasn't planning on buying the game just because of the visuals and the genre. Played the beta and loved it though, def has a curve to it but its fun imo

I am not denying it can have some impact. Anything can really, and there are many different types of gamers. It's not a major contributing factor though tbh. Casual gamers play what others are playing. If it was just that marathon was hard-core then it would have sold tons and had a massive falloff after people tried it. The main reason it's not taking off is it had terrible momentum, and it's very unwatchable compared to other games. If people watch someone play a game and it doesn't look fun they normally don't buy it themselves

@NSCSGaming @Onepeg A game being hardcore absolutely can be tied to its success. Literally look at all the plethora of hardcore mmos with pvp focus that have died because most players don't want the stress that comes with such a genre. They want easier to digest, WoW style games with optional pvp.

What are you even saying. Speaking that way will not make your point anymore right or not. It makes you seem less intelligent than anything else "junior". In the extraction genre there are a few games. Tarkov- the most hard-core, higher peak than marathon. Fell off from bad updates and cheating. Literally entire videos about the cheating when the game started to collapse. Arc raiders- highest peak, most polished game in the genre, Is starting to taper off eventhough it leaned super casual. Call of duty warzone- almost as casual as it could be, completely dead. The cycle- kind of in between, dead. Huntshowdown- casual leaning, never got out of niche. There's literally not a single game that shows a trend of hard-core and casual being any indication to a games potential playerbase size. I listed every other genre to show its worked there. There is no reason it wouldn't here based on trends. As I said if marathon updates well it could be as big as arc, if arc does not update well it will die. Regardless of how casual one is. Now is that too hard to understand? If you really want to discuss why marathon is not as large as arc? Worse momentum coming from its previous game than arc had. Bad momentum coming from its original showing in the tech test. Sort of polarizing art style where as arcs is universally praised. I can keep going. And none of it is that it's too hard or brutal.

My point from the very beginning has been there is no supporting evidence that a game being hard-core or casual has much to do with its success. You made goalposts with making it genre specific I did not. Every point you made is a lazy argument for why a game succeeded and failed. This casual game talk started with fortnite. People fail to realize that game is by far the best at adding content. Games succeed and fail for the reasons I listed. If marathon updates better than arc then it will be bigger than arc eventually. Hard core or not. The casual talk is just an excuse. And it doesn't help the game

Tarkov literally had a cheater in every lobby when I quit playing. It maintained for a longg time before that being hard-core as it can be. It never had AAA numbers because it is not triple A. It's great but it's updates are slow, it has horrible cheating and it runs like crap. It's literally only good because of how hard-core it is and I love it. Games succeed and don't because of foundation, polish, and updates. It has very little to do with being casual or hard-core in ANY genre. Br games there's games successful both ways, arenas both ways, literally every genre. We don't have a lot of data points for extraction but to say there's any proof is just false.

I have explained this before but let me try again. It's kind of confusing comparing the two. Gronk was the more talented of the two and if I had to choose for one game and I knew they was healthy I would pick gronk. For a season or more it's undoubtedly kelce. People think of gronks injuries wrong. He missed games all throughout his career. He missed playoffs games, superbowls. He was always an injury risk. From day 1. He never really had a peak sadly. He was still insane but far from what he should have been

@Matty_OW Something can take insane skill and still not be as watchable as something else. Him being A is about right tbh.

The Finals is the biggest disappointment in gaming this decade. Gameplay ten years ahead of its time. Limitless potential. Everyone loves this game. And yet… For some reason, sooner or later, every The Finals player reaches that same moment. One last dance.

@Matty_OW I love playing cass but he is definitely not the best example. Tbh the only one is probably ashe. She is good where she should be and bad where she should be. Too many heros are designed to be good at too many things.

This is a blatant misunderstanding of why games succeed and don't. The most successful game on steam still to this day is PUBG. Counterstrike being the most consistent. Games can be huge both by being hard-core and by being casual. It's honestly just a mater of "Do you do something great that nobody else currently does". IMO marathon can be huge if it's PVE is building off the highpoints of destiny. It will offer something no other extraction shooter can. Currently though the enemies need a TON of work. There's not enough variance in types of enemies, they are boring to fight because of the basic fight patterns. And in general it just needs way more depth in the PVE aspect, time will tell with that one. The PVP is a side note and is just to add more friction and intensity. I'm tired of hearing this "it's okay if it doesn't do well because it's hardcore" it's crap and an excuse. The game can be great. players just have to point out the right things and hope the devs deliver over time.

@Matty_OW This balance patch she is. She is actually busted. Before this she was pretty mid. One slowing hex destroyed her, multiple basically made her useless

Calico is the most OP character in Deadlock. I don't care, and you cannot convince me otherwise, no matter what items you tell me to buy. She does unimaginable damage out of nowhere and has the most map dominance out of the entire roster.
