Do not test the Lord your God" is a biblical command (Deuteronomy 6:16) warning against doubting God’s presence or demanding miracles to prove His faithfulness, as the Israelites did at Massah. a. Jesus cited this in the wilderness to refuse selfishly manipulating God's protection. b. It means trusting God without requiring proof. II. Key Context and Meaning: a. The Origin (Massah): • The phrase stems from Exodus 17:1-7, where the Israelites, lacking water, doubted God and asked, "Is the LORD among us or not?", essentially testing if He would be forced to act on their terms. b.
