@ArcRaidersInfo What did they do wrong? They developed a hardcore game with complex mechanics at a time when the current generation is suffering from acute brain rot and has the attention span of a housefly. And the 30+ uncsjust have to work. Basically, they simply don't have a target audience.

@ArcRaidersInfo Marathon had zero appeal for me. Honestly it looked exactly like 15 other games. The gameplay I saw looked too much like it was trying to be Fortnite. I took one look at Arc Raiders after a friend recommended it. And I was in.

If a less rewarding and somewhat limited PVE mode is what it takes to get people on Marathon, I would be fine with it. I'm thinking something along the lines of Sea of Thieves' Safer Seas mode if anyone is familiar with that. Something to better ease players into the game so it's not so daunting at first.

Bungie gives us the best extraction game to date, one of the best art directions in a MP game ever, insanely tight gunplay and amazing end-game maps. Everyone who plays Marathon is having fun. Sad, broken man cries instead of enjoying what he enjoys (probably nothing)

No disrespect to Paul. This is a good article. But, I just can't bother to care about whether a thing I am enjoying is popular or not. I know that has long term effects on support for the live service, but I played R6S for 10 years. That game wasn't a "hit" either.
