Yesterday, the Senate passed my bill S6975, relating to sexual assault in prisons. Last March, we held the first legislative hearing on sexual assault in prisons and jails and heard brave testimony from survivors, both formerly incarcerated and staff.

Lawmakers, members of @NYSCOPBAPR and women COs say there’s an increase in violence & sexual harassment since the enactment of HALT. One woman CO says she almost committed suicide after a violent incident with an inmate.

Its shameful that @nysensepulveda and @JuliaCarmel__ simply want to "be" right, and not "get it" right. They have an opportunity to protect everyone, yet more and more people, staff and incarcerated alike, continue to needlessly suffer because of their refusal to #repealHALT.

Since HALT, violence in prisons has skyrocketed & staff are experiencing the worst prison conditions in NYS history. Meanwhile, @NYSenDems continue to bury their collective heads in the sand & claim there is no connection between HALT and the violence. The data tells the truth.

To continue to use decades-old personal stories to describe what modern-day conditions in a Special Housing Unit are like is deliberately misleading. The state data tells the real story, violence in prisons spiked the day HALT was implemented and hasn't wavered since. #repealHALT

At what point will @NYSenateDems @NYSA_Majority admit HALT did not make NY prisons safer? We have over a year's worth of state-tracked data and countless real life examples where those emboldened by the HALT Act attack staff and inmates alike with no repercussions. #repealHALT
