New Zealand is heading into a trap. The government has grown too big. It costs more every year. It produces less every year. And the only way our leaders know how to close the gap is to take more from the people still trying to build something here. But here's the catch. Raise taxes high enough and the best minds leave. The best businesses leave. The capital leaves. The tax base shrinks. So they raise taxes again. And more people leave. That's the spiral. That's where we're headed. You can't tax your way out of this. You've got to shrink your way out. Cut the size of government. Cut the cost. Start paying down the debt instead of adding to it every single year. Sell the assets that don't need to be in state hands and use the money to clear what we owe faster. Strip back the bureaucracy that makes it harder than it should be to start a business, hire someone, build a house, open a shop. When business is easier, more business happens. More business means more jobs, more wages, more activity, and yes, more tax revenue. Not from higher rates. From a bigger, healthier economy. That's the way out. Smaller government. Lower debt. Less red tape. More freedom to build. We're at the point where the choice is real. Keep growing the state until the productive part of the country gives up and walks. Our exporters are expected to save $43 million a year but our government has committed over $2 Billion a year in private-sector investment into India over the next 15 years with claw-back clauses. That's more than 46 times as much as we'll be saving. That's money leaving NZ or being borrowed by NZ companies to benefit India. 2. India gets 100% duty-free access to NZ, putting our farmers and manufacturers under immense pressure. 3. Grants significant work and student visas to Indians without caps, impacting jobs, services (water, power, etc.) and significantly increasing the cost of housing - expect to see more people living in their cars.
