@Niflheimm155983 I recently replayed it on Nightmare and it's genuinely such a miserable experience. Ruined the perception I've had of it for the past 10 years and now I can't take anyone who unironically defends it over Eternal and TDA seriously.

I played through Doom 2016 twice back in the day and really enjoyed it both times, but nowadays I just can’t enjoy it anymore. I feel like it’s in this awkward middle ground where the arena-based level design is extremely boring and underdeveloped compared to boomer shooters, but it’s also not anywhere near as mechanically complex as the newer CAG/FPS hybrids like Eternal or Ultrakill. Combined with the poor weapon balancing, every fight devolves into bunny hopping around the arena in a circle with your SSG and Gauss Cannon.
I also feel like I’m going crazy every time people complain about the story in Eternal or TDA and say they like 2016 more for that reason; like did we play the same game? Because 2016 is much slower, much more “adventure-y” (and not in an interesting/cool way like FEAR or something), and much more story heavy since more stuff in 2016 is unskippable.
Aside from the redditors and boomers who got filtered by Eternal, I think eventually this game will get what it deserves: to be remembered as the final nail in the coffin of the slow military singleplayer FPS, mostly just notable for its historical influence.

All I'm saying is that if you took a bunch of people and asked them to describe their ideal game - more likely than not, their idea is incredibly inspired by a game that already exists, or there's already a game exactly like it.
There's only so many games you could make until they all become off-shoots of each other's overall style. At that point, just play whichever one looks cool to you, who cares.
