@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 I believe that creating a culture of acceptance and collaboration starts by modeling collaboration and acceptance! When we as educators can show our students what this truly looks like, they will follow suit. This also means making ALL students feel included 😊

@WrightMath314 @MrsGallardo1 Empathy is defined as the ability to understand the thoughts, feelings or emotions of someone else. An empathetic teacher gives each student a framework to build on in which all thoughts, opinions, feelings, and differences are uplifted.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Q3: Math is treated differently compared to other subjects. Math anxiety stems from the fact that students are expected to memorize so much and are often timed on their tests. This creates an added stress to our students. #EDEL5200

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 A2: Some of the benefits of student participation in “Number Talks” is that students are able to give their different strategies, students learn mental math, having opportunities to memorize math facts, and develop conceptual understanding of numbers. #EDEL5200

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 The pressure to memorize math facts in a timed test is a big reason for math anxiety. Students' confidence goes down when they do not perform well on a timed test. This makes them turn away from math. #EDEL5200

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Math projects can be effective on students learning. The teacher will be able to see what they learned. A google form with what would be on the test. Google forms are another effective way for students to show what they learned. #EDEL5200

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 The lack of support in the subject which makes students stress. As well as having to memorize different equations. Many math exams are timed and students feel pressured when they do not have much time to complete their work #EDEL5200

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 An activity that can help in number flexibly is using "Number Talks". The teacher will put a problem up. Then students will solve the problem in their head. One its time to share the teacher will call on students. Each student will share how they solved it.

@WrightMath314 @joboaler @MrsGallardo1 Memorizing math fact are unnecessary and damaging to students because it leads to misunderstanding of math and student end up disliking the subject. This topic is controversial due to some positive results when memorizing math fact is done correctly. #EDEL5200
