“Being a new mother while studying narrative medicine made the work feel urgent. I was not only learning for myself, but also imagining the world I hoped he would inherit.” Alum Miniya Williams on balancing motherhood with study, storytelling & community: shorturl.at/VinHy

Congrats to our friends at @The_Intima for the @PublishersWkly review of their new anthology!
The Intima@The_Intima

REVIEW TIME! @PublishersWkly included our anthology in their Spring 2026 Previews in Politics & Current Events : “Collects writings by health care workers reflecting on their struggles with burnout, frustration, fear, and self-doubt, as well as the joys and successes that make their vocation worth it.” And @ALA_Booklist reviewer Tony Miksanek wrote insightful & truly lovely words about it too. Many thanks! Counting down to 3/24/26 when our anthology comes out. #narrativemedicine #bookreviews #graphicmedicine @narrative_medicine

At Intima, we often are asked: "What is narrative medicine?" This insightful @columbiamag article titled "How to Treat a Patient Like a Work of Art" covers the meaning, history and relevance to health care today that narrative medicine training has on doctors, nurses, therapists and ultimately patients. vagelos.columbia.edu/about-us/colum… @NarrativeMed @ColumbiaMSPH

In the "can you relate" category: Where Fear About Living & Dying is Held: A reflection by UC San Diego internal medicine resident Tulsi Patel begins... " When I read “Letter to My Oncologist” (Fall 2025 Intima), I was struck by how psychologist Julia Dobner-Pereira, watches her physician for the smallest fracture of a moment in composure—and how the physician watches her for the same. Their exchanges sit on a narrow ledge—two people trying to hold each other’s fear without admitting how much weight they’re carrying. I recognized that terrain immediately. As a clinician, I’ve felt patients monitor my breathing, my pauses, my half-smiles. That hyper-attunement made me think about the questions patients ask—not the literal ones, but the questions underneath."
