Trump claims that if Iran had nuclear weapons, it would have wiped out Italy in two minutes. The only reason he, and others, can peddle this kind of nonsense is that Iran has committed one unforgivable sin: it has been the most consistent and outspoken state supporter of the Palestinian cause. For that, it has endured a decades-long campaign of demonization so relentless and pervasive that even the most outlandish claims now sound almost reasonable. Ask for empirical evidence that Iran has ever intended to destroy Western civilization, and they’ll reflexively point to its support for Palestine. Press harder, and they pivot to Iran’s forceful acts of self-defense, then invite you to fantasize about what it “might have done” with nuclear weapons. “Look how it’s firing missiles at Israel—imagine if those were nuclear!” “Look how it’s blocking the Strait of Hormuz—imagine if it had warheads!” Fortunately, the current war has stripped away much of the illusion for millions around the world, revealing what Iran is actually about. But exposure alone is not enough. It will take a deliberate, sustained effort to dismantle the false premises and fabricated assumptions that continue to underpin hostile policy.

Israel killed every single person in this video in Lebanon. Every. Single. One. Not fighters. Babies. Children. Women. Entire families. 350 civilians slaughtered in one day. Remember their faces the next time Israel claims it’s targeting “militants.”

A legal perspective for the record: - The Iran war is a war in violation of international law. Historically it is called Bellum iniustum or “unjust war”… - A naval blockade is an act of war in international law and “an act of aggression” in accordance with United Nations Definition of Aggression… #IranWar

IMPORTANT: FM @Araghchi has so far made no comment on the negotiations. Any statements or remarks attributed to him are false. Just as Israel has a track record of false flag operations on the ground, there is also a parallel effort to disseminate fabricated statements in the media and across social platforms in the name of Iranian officials.

The minutes from the meeting that led to Trump's decision to block the Strait of Hormuz have been released: Vance: "Mr. President, the negotiations failed, Hormuz remains closed." Trump: "Don't worry JD, I have a plan." Hegseth: "Hell yeah! We're going to nuke it!" Rubio: "Can you please tell us what you're planning Mr. President?" Trump: "I'm going to block Hormuz." Hegseth: "Fuck yeah Mr. President! Operation "Blocked B*tch" starts now!" Vance: "Jesus Christ Pete, STFU!" Hegesth: "Don't talk to me like that, I'm the secretary of War!" Rubio: "JESUS CHRIST Pete, STFU. Mr. president, can you tell us why you want to block the strait?" Trump: "Very simple, they block the strait and we ask them to open it, now we will block the strait and they will ask us to open it. I call it 'the art of Hormuz'. Hegseth: "That's fucking awesome Mr. President!!!" Vance: "Sir, eh... with respect, maybe we should consult someone about this." Trump: "Oh I already did, and he said it was a great plan." Vance: "Really? Who?" Trump: "Bibi." Vance: "Jesus Christ not again." - End of minutes.

I am genuinely struggling to understand this logic. If the rest of the world is willing to pay a small toll to Iran to keep oil flowing and stabilise markets, then why does the U.S. feel the need to block all shipping, especially when it is not dependent on that oil?

Amerikanets 📉@ripplebrain

Just taking a step back to appreciate the strategic double bind Trump is in: - If he gives into Iranian demands, the Democrats will crush him with his own rhetoric, portray him as weak, point out that "gave more money" to Iran than Obama did. The Iranians are holding firm in their demands and refusing to give in to pressure. The Israelis can blow up a deal at any moment, and Trump is clearly too weak to restrain them. - If he escalates he'll just double down on being responsible for sending gas to $6+ dollars a gallon and triggering a global economic depression. The longer the war drags out, the worse it'll be. There's no clear path to victory, and any deal he might be able to put together at a later date is likely to be even less favorable than the one he just refused. He's chosen to resolve this, apparently, by accelerating the negative economic effects of the war without directly attacking Iran. It makes no sense because there's no way out of this trap. This conflict is probably the most egregious unforced foreign policy error in American history.

The whole point, for Trump, is to keep oil prices as low as he can, which is why he tried to boost supply by lifting sanctions on Iranian oil. So yes, this is another bad idea that will backfire. The Iranians are good wrestlers, I hear.
Hamidreza Azizi@HamidRezaAz

Well...it seems that Trump’s genius idea to open the Strait of Hormuz is to close it further! This can, of course, put pressure on #Iran in the long term, but the short- to mid-term effects on the U.S. and global economy are likely to be much more significant. One should not forget that in the past 40 days, Iran has been able to ship and sell its oil through the strait, while other oil-producing countries in the region have not. This means Iran is already 40 days ahead of others. At the same time, it is quite probable that, if Iran is not allowed to sell its oil, it will try to make it impossible for other actors, like Saudi Arabia and the UAE, to sell their oil by bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. And once again, a casual reminder that the Bab el-Mandab Strait is not closed yet...
