BREAKING 🇮🇪 Irish Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan has called out the removal of Christianity from Irish history in Saint Patrick's Day rhetoric: 'What self-respecting country would really claim that their greatest asset was multiculturalism? The Chinese or Russians and many others would laugh at this. Surely if I go to France I want to find a French country. Or go to London and find it English'

🧚‍♀️🇮🇪🌳In Irish tradition, fairies are not tiny winged creatures, but powerful beings known as the Aos Sí — the "people of the mounds" The word Sídhe (pronounced shee) refers to the ancient burial mounds and hollow hills they are said to inhabit, and which serve as portals to a hidden Otherworld existing alongside our own. The Aos Sí are respected and feared in equal measure. People have avoided disturbing the Sídhe, or cutting lone hawthorn trees believed to mark their presence. Some farmers would leave offerings of milk to avoid causing offense to them. Speaking to them directly was often avoided, with euphemistic names like "The Good Neighbours," "The Fair Folk," or "The Gentle Folk" used instead. In Irish culture, these beings are ancient powers tied to the land itself.

Brother of the poet W. B. Yeats, Jack Butler Yeats became one of the most important painters Ireland ever produced. Though often overshadowed by his famous brother, Jack Butler Yeats would go on to define modern Irish art in the 20th century. Born in London in 1871, Jack B. Yeats was the youngest son of the portrait painter John Butler Yeats. Despite his London birth, his formative years were spent in County Sligo with his maternal grandparents—an experience that profoundly shaped his artistic imagination. The landscapes, people, and atmosphere of Ireland’s west coast would later become some of the defining subjects of his work. In 1887 he returned to London to live with his parents and studied at the Chiswick School of Art alongside his sisters. There he learned freehand drawing, perspective, decorative design, and other practical artistic disciplines. Early in his career Yeats worked as an illustrator for popular publications including Boy’s Own Paper, Judy, and Punch. He even produced comic strips, including a parody of Sherlock Holmes titled Chubb-Lock Homes. During this period he also wrote articles under the pseudonym “W. Bird.” His first solo exhibition, “Sketches of Life in the West of Ireland,” opened in 1898 and marked the beginning of his public career as an artist. Initially working primarily in illustration and watercolor, Yeats transitioned to oil painting around 1906. His early paintings were lyrical depictions of rural life, landscapes, and figures drawn largely from western Ireland. Around 1910 his style evolved dramatically toward Expressionism. Through bold color, energetic lines, and thick layers of paint, Yeats developed a powerful visual language that would make him internationally recognized. His work frequently explored themes such as the loneliness of the individual and the universal struggles of human existence, while remaining deeply rooted in Irish subjects and environments. Yeats was sympathetic to Irish republicanism, though he avoided direct political involvement. Instead he believed that “a painter must be part of the land and of the life he paints.” His art captured the spirit of modern Ireland while maintaining a timeless, human focus. He also maintained strong ties to Irish literary culture, becoming close friends with the playwright Samuel Beckett and designing sets for productions at the Abbey Theatre. Beyond painting, he wrote novels, plays, and short works of fiction. In 1924 Yeats achieved another unusual distinction: he won a silver medal for painting at the 1924 Summer Olympics for his work The Liffey Swim, during a brief era when the Olympics awarded medals for artistic achievement. Jack B. Yeats continued working into old age and died in Dublin in 1957 at 85. Today he is widely regarded as the one of the most important Irish painter of the 20th century, with many of his works held by the National Gallery of Ireland.

Shane Coleman the latest respectable commentator to acknowledge that Catherine Connolly was (at least likely) right in what she said on IWD, 'But that does not mean she was right to actually say it.' These people, afraid of speaking, they're spiritually sick.

🇮🇪🇷🇸 An Irish exile once commanded a Russian army and helped defeat the Ottomans in Serbia. Joseph Cornelius O’Rourke, an Irish Catholic, rose to become a Russian general. During the Serbian Revolution, Karađorđe placed his army under his command. Outnumbered nearly 3:1, O’Rourke chose the battlefield at Varvarin and won.

☘️Dublin, Texas — population ~3,700 — proudly carries the title of being the “Irish Capital of Texas” Founded in 1854, the town has long celebrated its Irish heritage with St. Patrick’s Day festivities. In 2005, the Texas Legislature formally recognized that legacy when Governor Rick Perry signed a proclamation designating Dublin the official Irish Capital of Texas. Today, the town remains home to a strong community of Irish American families who continue to keep that heritage alive deep in the heart of Texas. 🍀

Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day river dyeing tradition holds a perfect bit of symbolism. The tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green began in 1962 when plumbers from Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Local 130 noticed that the tracer dye they used to detect sewer leaks turned emerald green in the water. Ironically, the actual color of the “dye” thrown into the river is . . . Protestant Orange.

📊🇮🇪In 2024, a poll of Irish voters found that more than 1 in 3 would support an anti-immigration party — a dramatic rise since 2021. Yet Ireland’s major political parties continue to avoid the issue entirely. This isn’t democracy, it is political suppression of the Irish vote.

Ireland is the land of saints and scholars — a people whose story stretches far beyond the island itself. Our history, faith, learning, and resilience have shaped nations across the world. The Irish race is destined for far greater than most dare imagine.

The meetings were successful. At least five secret meetings took place between senior U.S. and Iranian officials from March through fall 2013. Burns and Sullivan led every U.S. delegation. By the final meeting, the two sides had agreed on the core framework of what would soon be presented to the world as a multilateral P5+1 agreement in Geneva. The back channel didn't just support the idea of a deal. It wrote the first draft.

Irish Americans — left & right — were promised 'no new wars' from the Trump administration. Instead we got Venezuela, escalation in Ukraine, and now another war in the Middle East. And with the loss of Sgt. Declan J. Coady and Maj. Jeffrey R. O’Brien, two of our own, it becomes painfully clear: this administration serves foreign interests before it serves our people. That's why we're calling on @MichealMartinTD to boycott this year's Shamrock Ceremony. Full open letter: nationhoodrevivalcoalition.com/openlettertota…
