“I used to feel Nigerians are really bright. We have had over 500 vacancies since 2024, and we are still struggling to find Nigerians to fill those roles. They don’t meet global standards. I blame social media, yahoo & hook up culture..” ~ Moniepoint CEO, Tosin Eniolorunda says

“In my own case, MTN steals about 55,000 Naira worth of data from me every month. MTN is still stealing customers' data. They remain the biggest th!ef of data in this country” Omoyele Sowore has accused telecom giant MTN Nigeria of expl0iting subscribers, warning that protests may erûpt nationwide following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the company “We gave MTN a 7-day ultimatum, and that ultimatum has now expired today. We are reviewing the situation, but unfortunately, we have not seen any positive changes from them. Their attempt at whitewashing the issue by refunding small amounts like 46,000 Naira or even 400 Naira to some people is nothing but ext0rtion and d@m@ge control. I buy what is supposed to last a full month, yet it finishes in just three days. Many others who buy huge bundles like 800GB yearly also report that it gets exhausted within one or two months. Every service MTN provides these days feels like pure ext0rtion. That is why, starting from today, we have people on standby across the country ready to lead pr0tests and occupy MTN offices. This matter is not limited to MTN alone. Airtel, Globacom, and other telcos are involved, along with the government agencies that are supposed to regulate them. They are all compl!cit, and they will all be held accountable”

I used to think we have really bright talents in Nigeria but I now know they’re not up to the global standards — Moniepoint CEO, Eniolorunda, laments Founder of Moniepoint, Tosin Eniolorunda, has sparked conversation online after opening up about the company’s struggle to find qualified Nigerian talent despite hundreds of job openings. Speaking candidly, Eniolorunda revealed that the fintech made a bold move in 2024 to hire only Nigerians, but the outcome has been tough. “In 2024, we made a decision that we will no longer hire from any other place than Nigeria. And we chopped the cane in 2025,” he said. According to him, the company currently has about 500 vacancies but is struggling to fill them. “Not only could we not find people at the quality and the quantity we needed them, the few people that we found were not up to the global standards,” he added. The tech boss stressed that the challenge goes beyond local competition, noting: “I’m competing globally, my biggest competition, they are from China.” Eniolorunda didn’t hold back in pointing fingers at systemic issues, particularly Nigeria’s education system and shifting social values. “I used to feel like Nigerians are really, really bright, but I am honestly beginning to feel like we need to do something to prevent the general IQ of this country from going lower,” he said, expressing deep concern. He also blamed rising social media influence and trends like “Yahoo Yahoo” and “h@okup culture” for shaping the mindset of young people. “The level that people are reasoning in this country is not as high as it used to be,” he lamented. Despite the criticism, Eniolorunda maintained that Nigerians still have potential, urging a reset in values and investment in human capital. “We have it in us, all we just need to do is develop our human capital and change this mentality,” he said, while also pointing to brain drain as a major challenge.

@Nattysmartcodez @GwejeofAfrica @NigeriaStories To be honest with you, 200k is a huge sum of money. The problem here is that the currency is currently devalued. Compare $1k to 200k NGN and see the big difference. Now check, can US pay someone $200k a month? The answer is No. The problem is from the government!

The UK government deported a father, mother, and their 3 children back to Nigeria after they sold all their properties and even borrowed 20 million naira just to relocate to the UK. Tobore sold his house in Otokutu, his land in Opete, his black Lexus 330, his big boutique shop, and also borrowed 20 million naira to relocate himself, his wife, their two children, and his wife’s late senior sister’s daughter who had been living with them to the UK. When they arrived in the UK, both of them started hustling, but it was his wife, Funke, who got a better job first because she was a nurse, while Tobore was only getting normal warehouse jobs occasionally. After one year in the UK, Funke discovered that Tobore was still chatting once in a while with one lady he used to date when they were still in Nigeria. She got angry and went to the UK Home Office to report that she wanted to remove her husband as a dependant from her visa because she no longer wanted to continue the marriage. Mind you, Funke was the main applicant, while Tobore and the children were her dependants. After her complaint, the Home Office sent an email to Tobore informing him that he had only a few weeks to leave the country because his wife had removed him as her dependant. Tobore, being a typical Warri boy, decided that since this was what Funke wanted to do to him, he would scatter everything completely. Tobore then went to the Home Office and told them that one of the three children Funke declared as their child in the documents they used to enter the UK was not their biological child, and they had not legally adopted the child (which is a very serious offense under UK law). The UK Home Office then invited Funke to come with the children for a DNA test. When Funke heard that Tobore had exposed their family secret, she started begging him for forgiveness and asked him to withdraw the complaint so they could settle it at home, but it was already too late because the UK government was already aware. The DNA result truly proved that that particular child was not related by blood to Funke and Tobore, and that was how the UK government bundled the entire family back to Nigeria. As we speak now, the marriage has scattered. Tobore is now in Abuja driving a taxi, while Funke is in Lagos working as a nurse with a salary of 70k in a private hospital, and the children are staying with Funke’s mother in the village.

Nigerians are incredibly bright, but global standards demand global compensation. You aren't struggling to find top-tier talent because of yahoo and hookup culture. You are struggling because the Nigerians who actually meet global standards are already working remotely for foreign companies paying in US Dollars. The few who survive our broken education system and successfully upskill themselves immediately stop playing in the local league. Are local companies actually looking for global talent, or are they just looking for global talent at a local discount?
