@Navglad @dsantos9797 @AsadFromNYC To be clear I’m 100% for congestion pricing. I just don’t see the link to more people taking mass transit as a result of it as a good thing unless that’s being accompanied by increased funding to modernize the system.

Congestion pricing works: "Ridership grew from 1.21 billion in 2024 to nearly 1.3 billion riders in 2025, a 7.7% increase. Most of the 39 stations that saw a more than 20% increase were outside Manhattan." ny1.com/nyc/all-boroug…

@Navglad @AsadFromNYC “No sweat” is kind. Several lines could be described as severely overcrowded when passengers are having to skip trains. I also watched a handicapped person mortified that there was no way but up the stairs to exit Union Sq-14th St. Many parts of the system are in disrepair.

@dsantos9797 @Dvvwiththefacts @AsadFromNYC Nothing compared to the summer of hell in 2017. It's an old system. It's getting billions for a state of good repair and improvement on time performance. Nothing to do with its capacity. which is more than it carried last year.

@Navglad @Dvvwiththefacts @AsadFromNYC You seem to have forgotten the disaster the subway was in 2019. Multiple switch failures everyday, subways breaking down consistently causing passengers to remain trapped on the train for hours. You should look up what happened on July 20th, 2019.

@AsadFromNYC A 7.7% increase in an overwhelmed system facing a bunch of issues isn’t necessarily a win though. The city, state and MTA need to have an actual plan for improving the transit experience besides taking Trump to court which has already taken a year atp

Fascinating. There’s still a pending federal lawsuit in NJ that gets to the heart of the issue with Congestion Pricing money grab: did MTA ever had legal authority to toll in Manhattan? To summarize: 1. MTA is claiming they’re entitled to toll on federally funded roads which are typically prohibited via a VPPP program — but, wait for it — that program is DEFUNCT and Congress hasn’t given it a dime since 2012. In other words, if it hasn’t been funded in 14 yrs, the argument is it’s NOT a program. 2. VPPP only applies to roads on the federal interstate system NOT federally funded roads “like 57th Street, Lexington Avenue and 3rd Avenue below 60th” — the MTA overreached. Amazing. It ain’t over ‘till it’s over @GovKathyHochul and @MTA Janno Lieber.

What does SEQR reform really mean? If communities say yes to housing and infrastructure, we let them build. Let's break it down:

📢Big changes coming to Ninth Avenue! 9thAve in Midtown/Hell’s Kitchen will get wider sidewalks, a wider protected bike lane, and an extended bus lane to 50th St. This redesign will reduce sidewalk crowding, improve bus reliability and expand cycling infrastructure.

Israeli settlers have increasingly used violence against Palestinians in a bid to drive them from their homes in the occupied West Bank. But sexual assault appears to be a new weapon in these settlers’ arsenal of intimidation, pointing to a troubling new level of violence. cnn.it/4du8vj6

Does anyone think a NY windfall profits tax on oil and gas corporations and returning the money to new yorkers as a cash payment is viable politically and worth organizing around? I'm not sure, just wondering.

@Noahpinion I mean he is a huge backer to SEQRA reform that will happen in NYS This year and cut back on environmental review for housing and most everything else. That is huge!

@RefrmDemocracy @r0berto_best_4 Zohran ran against a hated sex pest, the mayor was a conservative corrupt bald ninja turtle and with trump as president. It took that environment for him to win 50% of the vote. Elections are reactions to the past not present trends. DSA, democrats, GOP, never learn that lesson.

People running city-funded "nonprofit" homeless shelters shouldn't be making $1,000,000. Not only is it outrageous, it breeds corruption and subverts democracy. The mayor of NYC makes $258,750 a year. People working under him, including those who award city contracts, make less.
Charlie Smirkley@charliesmirkley

NYC “Nonprofit” shelter execs: what they make running a system that costs ~$82K/person/year: Jack Brown, CORE: ~$1M+ Raul Russi, Acacia: ~$1M Lymaris Albors, Acacia: ~$0.9M Joanne Oplustil, CAMBA: ~$0.8M Rosa Gil, Comunilife: ~$0.7M
