I see a lot of posts from people lamenting the fraught relationship between NYC-DSA and the national org. There is little motivation for us to improve that relationship when we are having massive success on our own and the national org is completely paralyzed by factionalism
Gustavo@unionGustavo

DSA’s national leadership (the NPC) just voted to overturn our convention & took away rank and file members’ right to vote in an all-member poll on presidential endorsement. The NPC taking away our members’ right to vote while NYC-DSA members send them ~ $2M per year in dues.

@centristmarxist Sam Webb thought is such a right deviationist error that I would prefer the our friends yDSA trots to remain the swing vote.

Tons of respect to Sarah M (very principled on today’s call), but one point of disagreement from today’s NPC meeting : the Bernie 2020 campaign *was* perceived as highly controversial, until the membership poll made it very clear the membership did not consider it controversial.

Obviously no one thinks this was a procedural disagreement, it’s silly to pretend otherwise to try and make people you disagree with seem hysterical about minutiae. The vote was about if DSA intervenes or abstains in the election, that’s why people are upset.

This is disgustingly untrue about 1m1v chapter metro dc DSA, where our 1m1v process greatly increases the ability of people to engage. Our Janeese endorsement ballot had member statements from 73 people. There is no world where we can do that in a meeting sorry!
glitch 🇵🇸@glitchpoke

case in point: 1m1v is completely transparent in wanting to change the org from one w/ active participation in deliberation/meetings to one that ideally just rubber stamps whatever the caucus with the largest email list says, i.e. total liquidation into the left wing of the dems

What the Communist Party gets wrong about this is that those mass politics chapters are sites of contestation between different masspol formations and the left says engaged because they often serve as a swing vote.
amiyah 🪶🏳️‍⚧️🇵🇸@amithecommie

The majority of successes of DSA come from local chapters (usually mass ones) that are dominated by a single caucus (usually the dsa right) and, through that unity, have been able to effectively intervene in the mass politics.

GW member Allison K. outlines why member polls and "paper members" are not things to be wary of but instead opportunities to expand the active layer of the organization. Our goal is to stir millions of people into political action; that requires deliberation AND mass input.

@HankeyLeone @_ericblanc Yes! Here's a picture of an original SPA mail ballot from 1915. They decided lots of questions by mail referenda. For the record though, I don't think "the SPA did it" is on its own a useful argument for why we should do something in DSA

It was only active organizing by former slaves that transformed the Lincoln presidency into an army against the Confederacy. We have an opportunity to revolutionize our federal government and finish Reconstruction to end Israeli apartheid.

We have the opportunity to lead an inspiring campaign for AOC for president, powered by DSA members, that will engage and grow the base for socialist politics. There is currently no other candidate who is running who a majority of DSA members support who supports an arms embargo.
