ARRESTED AND GRANTED BAIL … The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) last week arrested Semeon Handjene, owner of Oshali Fuel Centre CC. He was formally charged as the 15th accused in connection with the ongoing National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia matter. Handjene appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, where he entered a plea of not guilty in terms of the Criminal Procedure Act of 1977. He was granted bail of N$50 000. The case was postponed to 28 October for further proceedings. The charges include contravention of the Anti-Corruption Act 8 of 2003, money laundering under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act 29 of 2004, and theft. Photo: ACC


I hope Commissioner Sakaria’s replacement is equal to the task. The way Lungameni and his troops handled that prosecutor attack syndicate and other matters in the region is admirable. A cosmopolitan region like Oshana needs a solid officer of the law at its helm.
